i probably wouldn't have started watching this show if it wasn't for betty white. i was so happy for the surge of re-popularity betty has gotten over the last couple of years. it is such a shame for celebrities who have stood the test of time to die before they can enjoy their fame well after they retire. but the great thing about ms. white is she is still going so strong, and she still has that impeccable timing that is a part of every character she has portrayed.
i taped a marathon t.v. land recently ran of the show and i'm three or four shows into it. for the most part, i find it cute and funny with more than one really funny line thrown into each scene. it's such a nice change to watch good old scripted comedy, rather than seeing another promo for a carbon copy reality show filled with whining, cat-fighting attention whores.
i wasn't sure, though, that i would like the set up. three women who are considered older somehow - a little more mature than the usual bouncy 20 year olds, defining how old a woman must be to be past her prime. but this show doesn't really do that, and betty white is the best example they offer. valerie bertinelli is just as bubbly as she was in one day at a time, which can be a little much if i'm not in the mood for it, but she's just so gosh darn cute. i was never a big fan of wendie malick, but she really was perfect for her particular role. and jane leeves is not the same as daphne by any stretch of the imagination. for one thing, she must have starved herself for this role, for she is almost scrawny. but her humor is as sharp as ever and the four women play off each other very well (IMO).
has anyone else watched it?
