Sonic the Hedgehog, the mascot of Sega, was born in 1991 and now for the 20th anniversary of "Sonic the Hedgehog". I hope for a Sonic 20 Anthology for PS3! Though Sonic is now on PlayStation, XBox, and it's rival Nintendo...he's still the best mascot for a video game, and here's a vid for some good...and bad Sonic Games....

Loved Sonic when I was younger, including the TV show, but he's been terrible since the shift to 3D. I've been hearing some good things about the new Sonic Colours and this new 2D Sonic 4 on Xbox Live Arcade.
Fond memories of the first times I played the classic first three games on the Megadrive (Genesis in the States). Played the first one at my mates house as he was the first to get one of those super-duper souped up 16 bit systems and I remember how fast it was. I ended up getting a Megadrive the following Xmas and it came with one controller, Sonic and the first Streets Of Rage.
Sonic 2 was for a long time my favourite game ever. Sonic 2sday was a stupid piece of advertising but the excitement at it coming out was incredible. For the longest time I couldn't afford it until my Dad bought a used copy from one of his work mates. By then I'd played it endlessly at friend's houses but it was nice to sit down and play it right through for myself. Facing Robo-Sonic and Death Egg with no rings is still a daunting task!
Sonic 3 wasn't so great a game but the day it came out was great. I went up to my best mate's house and he rented it from the local independent video rental place who was renting out games illegally. My mate had reserved Sonic 3 weeks in advance. We finished it between us in less than an hour but then the heaviest snowfall I've ever seen happened and we went sledging on the big hill behind his house.
I still have the original cartridges of some of them and I have the Sega Saturn collection Sonic Jam which has 1, 2, 3 and Sonic and Knuckles which you can play combined with the others, something that hasn't been allowed as far as I know in other Sonic collections. The little curio though is the first appearance of Sonic in 3D in a level that looks like Green Hill Zone. The game is lame, a series of tasks with no enemies that feels little a tutorial for how to play a Sonic 3D game. It is the gateway to all the bonus DVD extra like stuff about Sonic though. Funnily I remember at the time the Sega magazine I read went on about how this little section on Sonic Jam proved that a 3D Sonic game would whoop Mario 64's arse. How wrong could they be?
Thinking about those three games brings back so many memories of where I was in my life at the points I played them, as do many other old games that I still love playing. They have so much attached to them and I think that's why I struggle to love any new game I play as much.
Sadly I've still never played Sonic CD as I have never owned a Mega CD. Hope to rectify that situation someday as all I hear about it are good things.
For the record my favourite Sonic game is Sonic 3 when inserted into Sonic and Knuckles. That's the game Sonic 3 should have been. It's an epic game that takes hours to get all the way through, and doing it with all Chaos Emeralds and Super Chaos Emeralds is a hell of a challenge and one that can only be done by finding a secret cave in the first of the Sonic and Knuckles levels. Add into that that you have to do it as both Sonic and Knuckles as the game changes massively by which one you are and it all adds up to the pinnacle of the series for me.
Just best to forget about WereSonic and Shadow the Hedgehog really.

like old Sonic, hate the new, especially all those new characters like "big the cat" and "Cheese the Chao"

And still...they don't add these characters.... Rotor Walrus... Antoine D'Coolette... Princess Sally and her father Acorn... Bunnie Rabbot... And Sonic's uncle Charles Hedgehog.... I can see Rotor, Antoine, and Bunnie as a trio. And Charles, Sally, and Acorn as another.

Bunnie almost made her way into a game called Sonic Mars before it was cancelled. I've always maintained that the Freedom Fighters would've been great in any game.
So saying, I'm *really* looking forward to trying out Sonic the Hedgehog 4. It looks like they might be back on track. I hope so, at any rate.

I still hope to see The Freedom Fighters in a game soon, I may even make it as a Facebook page.... I now have an idea for a Sonic the Hedgehog Movie. It has the characters from the games and comics as well....
