I was actually thinking about him this weekend. Specificly the Hannibal Lecter films and how he threatened to make a fourth one without the authors involvment until the author caved. The result was Hannibal Rising. I was wondering if he was still throwing his weight around for a fifth one.
As far as shere amount of bullcrap ever released by a producer, De Laurentis has to only come behind Roger Corman and Jerry Bruckheimer. I never was really a fan of his work (the remake of King Kong he did assured I never would be), but I cared enough to remember his name. I was shocked to hear about his death. But he left a healthy and impressionable (good or bad) imprint upon cinema. That's all anybody in the biz wants, and kudos to him for succeeding.

This is quite a loss. He was involved in many films I love, be they cheese or gold. He was behind such trash as Maximum Overdrive and masterstrokes like Blue Velvet. He knew talent when he saw it, and put his money and faith behind it. RIP.
