In an ongoing quest to find new thread material I thought of this. Maybe it has been done before under a different title.
While watching The Skydivers I couldn't help but notice that the skydiving footage was actually pretty good. There's one scene where you see someone opening their chute then another skydiver go zipping by and from the looks of it, seemed to be pretty close to each other and I thought to myself that's cool looking. One more, I was watching Outlaw (of Gor) and in between all of the Cabbot calling there was a scene of a sunset that was done very nice.

I always thought Zombie Nightmare had some genuinely good plot twists. The voodoo chick was the girl that Jon's Dad stopped from getting raped, then she resurrected Jon to get revenge not just on his attackers, but on her attackers, as well, and Adam West turned out to be one of the attempted rapists, and then Jon's father pops out of the grave to kill Adam West. Admittedly, it took me a few viewings to figure all that out, but once I did, I went "Neat!".

The opening scene to FINAL SACRIFICEwas pretty decent, especially when "Larry Csonka" gets shot as they cut to that eerie twilit shot of those trees (*BANG* Mike: 'He exploded before they could shoot him'). In fact, the film had a lot of camerawork that, while kinda rough, was acually pretty good. There were a number of still establishing shots....as Rowsdower tries to start his truck, there's a few shots of the desolate town...A tree...a sign...a church ('The town's alternator is shot')...slow pan to the establishing shot of ol' Zapp & his truck ('Who says there aren't any nice houses in Canada?')....Though low budget & goofy, it's actually a nice adventure flick to watch.

I was always impressed with the lack of care in the producing of "Attack of the The Eye Creatures". It takes alot of work to make a movie and not pay attention at the same time.
Folks... THEY JUST DIDN'T CARE!!

Some of the shots in 501 WOTLW were actually kinda cool like when hes riding in the haze in the begging Too bad it was a total ripoff of the start of High Plains Drifter, which the director himself admitted. I'm surprised that there were a couple moments in Future War where the camera showed a wide landscape shot, and mixed in with the soundtrack, made for an evocative moment. It surprises me, because man, there was very, very little that those filmmakers did effectively at all.

Period. End of subject.

Tormented was a professionally put together film, with deeper psychology than is usually found in a B movie--Tom didn't push Vi, but he wasn't halfway down the stairs/nothing he could have done either. And you really did think he was going to throw little Sandy off the lighthouse! Quite a slick little flick, really.
Sandy has grown up a lot this week.

I actually think that almost every movie MST3K did had some effective scenes. But, being the big Japanese monster movie fan I am, I'll just stick to defending those for the time being.
Even though Godzilla vs. Megalon is the cheapest Godzilla movie, some of the new effects scenes shot are actually pretty well done. Megalon's attack on the dam is a cool scene, and when the film is viewed in proper widescreen, you can really appreciate some of the staging in the battle scenes. Also, Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster is one of the most underrated Godzilla movies, I think. It moves along at a nice pace and the acting (when viewed in Japanese) is pretty good. I met Akira Takarada (who played the bank robber) this summer and I told him that I really liked his performance in this movie, which he seemed happy to hear.
I never cared for any of the Gamera movies as a kid (especially since I had the Sandy Frank tapes), but the widescreen Japanese versions on the new Shout! Factory DVDs are fantastic. Sure, the movies are goofy as hell, but it's obvious that a lot of hard work went into the making of these films (well, the earlier ones, anyway), and it really shows. I really do recommend checking those out, because it's like watching entirely new movies.
And I'm sure I'm the only person who liked the destruction scenes in Invasion of the Neptune People. Kevin's entry in the ACEG is wrong, by the way; the destruction scenes aren't actual wartime footage. Those scenes were shot for a World War III movie called The Final War, which is extremely rare (no home video release anywhere in the world, but it plays at Japanese SF festivals). Even the Hitler building is a model (and it's actually supposed to be a billboard for a movie about Hitler that was out at the time).

Cool info, Codyhimes. It clears up a lot about the Neptune Mess.

I'm glad about the footage not being "actual" wartime footage. I felt squicky whenever I thought about the possibility of people really dying in those shots.

The reason why I thought it was actual footage was because they'd show the building before it would blow up, and then for a split second the shot changed and the building exploded, as if they had spliced together two completely different shots. If all the shots were of models being blown up, it surprises me that they'd have to do that. It's much smoother and easier to show one continuous shot. That said, even though I think I've mentioned here twice that I thought it was real bombing footage, I always knew that at least some of those shots were of models. The power plant, for instance, did not explode like a real power plant would have when it blew up.

Wow you actually met Akira Takarada. Thats pretty awesome, and I agree Gzilla vs the seas monster is underrated, Ive owned the regular edition before I owned the mst3k version, I still thought it was silly but I loved the story, decent plot for a movie about a lizard fighting a lobster.
