We often admire for the love Joel (and Mike but not the main point of this topic) have for the bots. Watching Season 1 for the satellites guide i've noticed something. Is it me or does it seem like during season 1 joel doesn't really care for the bots? To me it seems like he has animosity towards the bots rather than compasion that he showed during later seasons. Any thoughts?

Joel did smack around Servo a lot during the first season. Especially in Robot Monster where he was breaking chairs over Servo's dome.
Although in season 3 Joel ripped off Crow's arm for saying bad jokes in the theater (ep 302 - Gamera). You also can't forget the shock treatments Joel gave both Crow and Tom in 404 - Teenagers From Outer Space simply for repeating the "NBC Mystery Movie" gag in earlier episodes. Joel was a harsh taskmaster.
Joel (and Mike) and the bots merely tolerated each other in the trapped situation they were in, IMO.
Once Joel was back on earth he apparently made no attempt to get the authorities involved in saving the SOL crew and even took it upon himself to fix the derelict satellite to keep Mike and the Bots trapped even longer in 1001 - Soultaker. After they crashed back on earth Joel isn't mentioned at the apartment where Mike and the 'bots are living. I can only assume from this Joel is still living his jet-setting life traveling around the world and working at hot fish shops. Not caring for his creations.

Yes, I always noticed this as well, but I always found it as the bots being more hostile to Joel. I think this is just from the way Josh played Servo as more smarmy and smarky than Kevin's early Servo. Crow hadn't fleshed out yet, but he was always a little adversarial towards Joel (usually making corny or dirty jokes Joel didn't like), and this season it was more prevelant.
Best example is the Crawling Hand where Joel wants to play a game and the bots won't let him and just treat him like an a-hole. Then they just walk off and pretty much say "whatever, d-bag, play with yourself."
BTW, first time post, so be gentle.

The one that pushed it over the edge for me was Robot Monster. Joel really seems like he would rather watch the movie by himself than with the Robots. He also never hugs the bots like he does in later seasons. He really doesn't act like a father figure like he does in season 2 and later. He acts more like their Co-worker.

Well Joel grew to love them & assume Bot-Fatherhood, eventually & you can't expect a Parent/Child relationship to be all Love, Hearts & Schmaltz all the time.
As for Mike & The Bot's on SOULTAKER, that pod can only hold 1 person, therefore Ol' Joeliecakes had no choice but to give Ol' Mikeybuns & the Bot's the ol' "Become A Man" pep talk & leave.
Who's to say that Joel didn't reunite with Mike & The Bot's after the events of the show were over?
Joel's eccentric but he's not a heartless bastard.

Joel's eccentric but he's not a heartless bastard. Yeah, The worst thing they could have done was a made a "Greatest American Heroin" out of the series by making Joel a Jerk when Mike took over.

I still want to go with the theory that was presented a few years ago that Joel chose to keep the Bots stranded on the SOL because he feared them being whisked away by the government the second they ever reached Earth.
