I went up to Titusville earlier today and took some shots. The weather worked out perfectly with the clouds disappearing just before launch, providing a nice blue backdrop. With so chances few left, I don't spend as much time looking through the lens as I used to, but still got a few decent shots. (In Darth Vader voice) I want to see these last launches with, my own eyes. There's a link to a gallery with all the photos, in full size, at the bottom. album

Nice pics. Here's a semi-interesting visible satellite picture I got earlier today - if you look closely just NE of Cape Canaveral, you can see the condensation trail from Discovery. The launch was pretty late in the day, so the picture's a lot darker than I'd like, but I always think it's neat to see a shuttle launch from space.

That's pretty cool. I've seen some launch photos from the ISS and it's like something out of a movie.

What are the reasons for scrapping the Space Shuttle? It's a bit like getting rid of Concorde, in as much as it seems a backwards step.
Nice photos by the way. The trip to the Space Centre is still the highlight of my 2 week holiday in Florida.

Nice. I've never seen an actual space launch in person, though I've checked out the museums, etc. Cool stuff. I wanna go to the moon.

The trip to the Space Centre is still the highlight of my 2 week holiday in Florida. It's mainly due to the age of the orbiters and the risks they present, very similar to Concorde's retirement. There should have been a replacement lined up years ago, or an alternate plan for deeper space travel, but lack of funding and poor planning has scrapped everything. Also, a trip to the Grove would probably be the highlight if I ever make it to London, but for now I'll settle for a win on Sunday. Nice. I've never seen an actual space launch in person, though I've checked out the museums, etc. Cool stuff. I wanna go to the moon. The first launch I saw, as well as the night launches, are easily some of the highlights of my life. I was literally shaking as I saw the shuttle leave the pad. From 15 miles away, you can feel the roar of the engines, and the sound waves actually ripple the Indian River if the winds are light. At night, if it's overcast, the entire river lights up as if the sun were setting. It's incredible. I guess I've never outgrown my childhood love with flying machines, because the only comparable memory for me was when I was sitting on an isolated beach on the Gulf. I heard a roar break up the complete silence of the beach. I looked around, when suddenly, over the trees, came a B-17 at low altitude. The sight and sound was surreal, like I'd gone back in time. It also made me realize how terrifying it must have been in the '40s to have a squadron of those coming in for a bombing run. a night launch

Very nice work, plissken. However, this is how to view a shuttle launch:

Wow, with all the scrubs, the odds of pulling that off must be minuscule. Do you have any idea how high up that is?

At least it wasn't Stoke. And I doubt Koscielny will ever be indecisive in the box again. I guess that's about all I can take from that final.
Arsenal should just send out academy players in the League Cup from now on. Just tank it right from the start so no one risks getting hurt. Nobody really cares if we win, but it's heartbreaking to lose. That's especially true for the Arsenal, who seem to be the leading innovators in finding unique ways to lose games.

The is the first season for years where Wenger has played to win the competition. Many a youth team player has been bloodied in the first team via this cup. The truth is that this trophy is a very poor fourth in the priority list for us. If you don't mind me asking, how did someone in Florida end up supporting an English Football team (whatever the answer, you are of course, applauded for your impeccable taste)?

The is the first season for years where Wenger has played to win the competition. Many a youth team player has been bloodied in the first team via this cup. The truth is that this trophy is a very poor fourth in the priority list for us. That's true, but I'm talking like 15 year olds. Just turn it into a sideshow act for one game. I'm obviously only half serious, but I just don't think it's worth playing any first team players in this competition, even if it's a final. Also, with this squad's injury record, young players seem to get more chances than they deserve (I'm looking at you Denilson). I'm not sure if they even need the experience of the Carling Cup anymore. As for supporting the Gunners, it goes back to my childhood to a certain extent. There was a cable channel that played English games, with MancU and Liverpool always on. I came to hate the two of them, and grew to like Arsenal. Unfortunately, after many years of playing year round competitive football, with constant drama regarding coaches, teams and parents, I got sick of it and didn't play or watch for a long time. It was around 2004 when I moved to Florida and for whatever reason, started to love football again. I picked up where I'd left off, having missed the glory years. Now, other than grand slam tennis, it's the only sport I care about. It's strange being so far away (right now I'm downloading the match since I couldn't drag myself out of bed this morning). None of my friends care about football either, so it's something I enjoy primarily in isolation, knowing that when I harp on about it, I'm only annoying people. It's kind of like MST in that way ;D. I also know that I'll never have the same feelings toward the club that a Briton would. I'll never fully grasp the history or understand the intricacies of the different sections of fans in the stadium and all that jazz, but whatever. I'm not in a competition to be the greatest fan in the world. I just love watching them play, and I'll probably support the red and white for the rest of my life.
