I remember when the film came out Rourke (who was on the outs in Hollywood) was very upset with Terrence Malick that his scenes didn't make the final cut. Based on this single deleted scene, it's easy to see why. Nice performance.

Indeed. I know many disagree, but a powerful adaptation of a powerful novel.
A sprawling one, though, in both guises.

Indeed. I know many disagree, but a powerful adaptation of a powerful novel. A sprawling one, though, in both guises. I love all of Terrence Malick's films really. The last one he did, "The New World," is perhaps my least favorite, though it's certainly gorgeous to look at. Sometimes I miss the old, quirky writer Malick; the guy who wrote offbeat scripts like "Pocket Money," "Deadhead Miles," "Badlands." Even "Days of Heaven" has some wonderfully strange moments ("I saved your life today?" "Really?" "Yeah. I killed a s**t-eating dog.") But mostly I'm just glad he's still making movies.
