I've always wanted to add a 12 string Rick to my arsenal but the major coinage (between 3 and 4G) has always scared me away. Anyway I bought a Jetglo model made by Indie guitars and I'm really happy with it. Rickenbacker are very protective about their products and pretty well shut down any manufacturer that makes copies so these Indie guitars will be harder to get as time goes on. If you're looking for a good copy of the Classic Rick 12, you can't go wrong with this. www.jsdguitarshack.com/indie_guitars/indie_irk5_12.html

Good for you. I don't know jack expeletive about guitars, but as a music geek, I can always appreciate hearing about good underdog brands. I play the alto sax, so I've gotten used to pricetags upwards of $3,000 (this explains why I only own one sax, but I'm itching to buy myself a nice tenor once I actually have some kind of a steady income). The problem with horns seems to be that (at least for saxophones) there really aren't any good "indie" brands. Most cheap saxes are cheap for a reason, and wind up being tinny and fragile. There are some good off brands out there, though. I've recently been very impressed with Cannonball's new lineup despite their... dubious reputation. See, Cannonball saxes are generally known for two things: being absolutely jaw-droppingly gorgeous (seriously, just look at them) and totally sucking. But in recent years, they've really upped their game, and produced some really great instruments with a big, warm sound that's just mind blowing for the price (around $2,200, which is suspiciously good for a sax). The only thing I don't like about them is that they have super loose key action, though that's all preference; I have friends who love loose action. Me, on the other hand, want something more smooth, which is why I eventually decided to instead go for a Yamaha 875 EX- that, and the fact that the Yamaha Customs are the most awesomely made saxes out there today.

Heh, I played alto sax in high school band! I imagine we would've never been playing the "good" ones that's for sure. They were Kings and Selmers as far as I can recollect. Here's hoping you get that nice tenor and add a nice bari to your collection although I'd guess bari's are a lot more expensive. I love the sound of a bari!

What I really covet is a Tubax, but they cost as much as a midsized car. And thete's nothing wrong with a Selmer, they're one of the top sax brands.
