I haven't watched any MST3K in forever. So, I guess I should probably watch at least one episode for Halloween. What do you guys recommend? I'm thinking about either revisiting an episode from season 1 or watching an episode I haven't seen before. Maybe Corpse Vanishes?

My go-to for Halloween is Being From Another Planet.

But I like Corpse Vanishes... I'll check out Being from Another Planet. I haven't watched much of season 4, but it's one of the seasons I'm more familiar with.

I did watch Being from Another Planet and it was... just alright. I did enjoy some parts of this episode, but a lot of it was just kinda boring for me. And the movie really didn't make much sense and didn't go anywhere. And this is more of a personal gripe I have with the show, but I hate how uneven in length the movie segments are. The third movie segment is almost always like 24 minutes or so, while the rest are around 17 minutes. I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot right now, but this show just hasn't clicked with me for some reason. I don't know if it's my age or the fact that I haven't watched enough or something else. I just haven't found an episode that I can consider to be really funny. But hey, I still have about 170 episodes left to watch. So, I'll keep looking.

I just checked out another KTMA episode, K02 - Revenge of the Mysterons from Mars. Of course, this episode is not gonna be as funny as the later episodes. And I didn't really care for the movie. Did anything even happen in it? However, I think what's here is pretty decent. This is the first episode of the entire series to feature all three characters in the theatre. And once Servo shows up, the episode does pick up the pace a bit. Host segments were appropriately Thanksgiving themed and I thought they were pretty enjoyable, despite how crude they are. I'm not comfortable calling this one good, but you have to be a bit more lenient with the KTMAs since they were so early. So, I'll leave it at "It's good for KTMA".
I tried rewatching Werewolf last night and I'm sorry, I just don't find this episode funny. I like the host segments (especially the song and the Werecrow segments) and there are some good quips here, but I just find the episode to be kinda boring. Maybe it's because I just don't find the movie funny. I really don't know. This is just one I can't get into, unfortunately.

You're right, subject doesn't matter, at all.
The cheeseball's got no freakin' class.

The "third movie segment" has an extra commercial break, because otherwise the timing of the host segments wouldn't have worked when it originally aired.

I guess so, but watching without commercials just makes that one movie segment really jarring to me. Maybe I should start watching more episodes with commercials.

Or just take a break at either of the commercial breaks during that segment. I’ll do that sometimes if I’m not feeling the episode or the target movie.
Watching with commercials is a lot of fun though, unless it’s on Comet.

Checked out Gorgo last night. It's a pretty fun episode! It's not a super stellar episode, but it kept me smiling all the way through and the movie didn't put me to sleep.

I'm still getting through season 9! I watched Devil Fish last night and it quickly became one of my new favorite episodes. The second half of the episode is definitely more dry than the first, but the jokes really hit when they hit. I also love the host segments, with the dolphins attacking the Satellite of Love and Mike and the bots becoming more and more Italian. It's just a really fun episode with quite a few big laughs. I'm looking forward to rewatching this one.

I guess so, but watching without commercials just makes that one movie segment really jarring to me. Maybe I should start watching more episodes with commercials. The trick is to think of the "segments" as commercial to commercial, rather than host break to host break. That way, the segments are always pretty close to the same length. Of course, in this case, you still might have a problem, because this one commercial break has no bumper, but I'd be with you on that, that bugs me a little bit. And sometimes the DVDs edit out that commercial break, so in those cases, the segments *are* too long and a tiny bit jarring.

I usually just think of them from host break to host break, as it splits the episode up into relatively even quarters. It it kinda weird how there's always that one break that just doesn't get a bump for whatever reason. But really, I probably made it sound like the uneven length of segments is a bigger deal to me than it really is. I can still watch most episodes in one go. It's just that for some of the more dry episode, that one movie segment can be very jarring. This is especially true for certain season 1 episodes. If I'm really liking an episode, then yeah I'll watch it in one shot. But if one isn't clicking with me, then I can always simply take a break at one of the commercials. I just need to get some more episodes with the old school commercials though, as they're pretty cool to watch on their own.

Just finished watching my first season 2 episode, The Hellcats. Totally incomprehensible movie, but the episode wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. It actually did get some smiles from me every now and then. However, you can tell that this one was rushed. The flashbacks are kinda neat. I'm especially fond of the segment where Joel shows the bots the different film scopes. But honestly, not having new host segments did kinda suck. The movie was kinda fun to watch, just for how absolutely nonsensical it is. It's almost like watching a car crash. It's so ugly, but you can't help but watch. Except for the ejaculation jokes. I could have done without those. I guess one positive about the movie is that the redhead chick was pretty cute. But really, this movie is pretty terrible and possibly one of the worst movies ever featured on the show. I still mainly like the episode, but the riffing isn't that great. The whole Kooky bit went on for way too long and there were some other riffs that dragged a bit. Again, it's not a bad episode. However, I can't see myself watching this one over and over again.
