I own Volume 9 of the MST3K DVD releases by Rhino. I don;t particularly like any of the episodes on the set. but apparently while I was looking up other DVD's online, I found that it seels for anywhere between 150-400 dollars. Which shocks me. I'm considering selling it so I can get different(and more) MSTie DVDs. Specifically that Gamera set, considering that will get really valuable once they lose Gamera's rights.
But my question is what makes this particular set so valuable?

volume 9 was only sold for about 3 weeks and then recalled because of rights issues. Very few copies exist compared to all of the other sets.

I did not know that it was only available for 3 weeks. That is one of the sets I own.

It may have been longer than 3 weeks, I saw remainders for 3 or 4 months but it was pulled within a few months at most.

Yeah it definatly wasn't 3 weeks. It was still available when vol 10 got pulled so it was out for at least 5 months.

It was on the shelves for 6 months or so but they stopped making new one a while before the last one sold out. When I said 3 or four months I meant I saw it on shelves 3 or 4 months after I heard it was pulled. They stopped making new ones pretty quickly.

Most likely Women of the Prehistoric Planet because the company that liscenced the film to Rhino also liscenced Godzilla Vs Megalon.

I love that volume, Sinister Urge and Strange Creatures are two of my all time favorites and Wild Rebels is really great also.

I actually have a Season 9 but will never, ever sell it. I have a copy as well & it will never leave me. I learned with the Amazing Colossal Man (back in the days of VHS).. that you always pre-order ! So sometimes finances be damn, if it's a MST3K box-set, I will order it. ;D

I have Volume 9, too, and I never knew it was pulled so quickly. What I really like about this set is that it's the only volume to date to include an episode with all the major casts of the show.
WOMEN OF THE PREHISTORIC PLANET has Joel, Trace's Crow and Josh's Servo. The Mads are Dr. F and Erhardt. WILD REBELS has Joel, Trace's Crow and Kevin's Servo. The Mads are Dr. F and Frank. THE SINISTER URGE has Mike, Trace's Crow and Kevin's Servo. Mads are again F&F. And INCREDIBLY STRANGE... has Mike, Bill's Crow and Kevin's Servo. The Mads are Pearl, Bobo and Observer.
If you ask me, the only thing that could have made it better would have been a Season 7 show in place of THE SINISTER URGE (that way you could also witness the Forrester and Pearl combination), but TSI is such a great episode, so I can't complain.
Now, come on Shout! Release another "four eras" box set!

I, unfortunately, do not own Volume 9. I have all the volumes except 9 (and also the original volume 10 - I have 10.2, but no biggie I suppose)! I hate that it's so expensive - i'm sure it will be on my Amazon wishlist for all eternity.

You're missing some cool extras, too. There are interviews with a couple of cast members on Women and Sinister Urge that give some nice insight into b-movie production.
Plus, Conrad Brooks is just an amazing human being, and your life will be better for watching him talk.
