I'd like to introduce my 9-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter to MST3K, and I'm wondering what some of the best episodes would be. Obviously it would be best to avoid the more violent and scary-monster-based ones. My daughter and I watched "The Day The Earth Froze" this morning, and she was captivated. "I was watching this crazy movie with the guys in the shadows, with Daddy," she told my wife this evening. Anyway, suggestions?

Obviously it would be best to avoid the more violent and scary-monster-based ones. My daughter and I watched "The Day The Earth Froze" this morning, and she was captivated. "I was watching this crazy movie with the guys in the shadows, with Daddy," she told my wife this evening. Anyway, suggestions? I have some suggestions: The "Rocky Jones" ones would be fun - CRASH OF THE MOONS & MANHUNT IN SPACE. These were from goofy Space Opera serials that were made for the kiddos back in the day. It's black & white but it's goofy fun. JACK FROST is a rather enchanting, magical, brightly colored wonderland, try that. SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS would be neat but the other SANTA CLAUS film, though technically made for kids, MIGHT be freaky in some places. Of course, You mileage may vary. Any of the GODZILLA & GAMERA stuff would be good. GAMERA vs. BARAGON is a tad more adult, though. It's basically a bloated tale of murder/betrayal/soap opera-ish junk with rubber monsters tossed in and not a goofy , poorly-dubbed, annoying kid in sight (and very little Gamera). The first GAMERA film is in B&W. I'd Highly suggest GAMERA VS. GAOS, GUIRON & ZIGRA along with GODZILLA VS MEGALON.FUGITIVE ALIEN 1 & 2 and TIME OF THE APES might be neat, though the editing & stuff is like getting your brain scrambled but the kiddos might like the visuals....y'know, space battles, weirdos with wigged helmets, talking apes, etc. Again, your mileage may vary. That's all I can think of at the moment. But there's others.

My kids love the show, but rarely make it through an entire episode in one sitting. They also love "The Day the Earth Froze", so that's a great one to start with. Ditto "Jack Frost".
I asked my 9-year-old what his favorite MST episode was and without hesitation, he shouted, "PUMA MAN!" I've also gotten a lot of mileage out of "The Giant Gila Monster" and "The Painted Hills" with them.

I'm not sure which episodes would be fun for kids. However, I must have been about 10 or 11 when I started watching the show, and it was all about the host segments. I didn't have the attention span to sit through terrible movies, but I was enamored with the robots doing crazy stuff on the SOL. I'd look for episodes with colorful, fun skits. Kids aren't going to enjoy Richard Burton impersonations like we do, but they'll probably love seeing Servo's head blow up, Forrester's head shrunk, or Joey the Lemur, or the Gamera song, or anything crazy like that.

I think kids will enjoy the Gumby short. Plus it'll introduce them to Gumby directly if they haven't been already.

How about some shorts - I think kids would enjoy Robot Rumpus, Posture Pals, Circus on Ice, Uncle Jim's Dairy Farm, and Junior Rodeo.

Mr. B Natural might entertain the 9 year old, but some of the riffs, come to think of it, are pretty adult.

I'd say any movie that was aimed at kids would be a good MT3K for Kids. Like Santa Claus..and S.C. Conquers the Martians, The Gamera movies...stuff like that.

How about Hobgoblins followed by Village of the Giants ? Or maybe The Sinister Urge . Very funny. Why not throw in The Violent Years and Horrors of Spider Island, too? It's better than learning about it on the playground.

The kids movies (like the Santa Claus films), and splashy monster (Gamera and Godzilla) and fantasy (the Russian films) spectacles are probably the best for kids because the movies themselves would be fun for kids and the Brains really thrive with those films anyway.

The Sandy Frank episodes would be a good thought. . .they were generally released for kids anyway. . .without the riffing that is.

Skyroniter or the Cheepnis guys oughta crank out a Host Segment Compilation, much like the Invention Exchange & Turkey Day Bumper Collections.
Kiddos LOVE the Bots, as do adults. I love host segments!
