for some reason, it's looped twice in this clip. probably to see if the stoners would notice. yeah, i definitely relate to this experience.

how weird - after i posted that, i just happened to catch that whole act - live at beacon theater? - i think, on FX last night. it takes a lot to make me laugh out loud, but louis does it every time.

I'm kinda a laff ho, i've been known to laugh all the way through a movie and then say at the end I didn't like it. But I think Louis CK is the funniest comedian currently working, and he'll be remembered right up there with the greats.

just checked out Lucky Louie, too, a few days ago. part of the reason i like him so much is he doesn't just phone in jokes or take the easy way out with mean-spirited or grossout humor, he does challenging things like shoot a sit-com in old-school All in the Family videotape style.

i was all set to watch wilfred last night, when about two minutes into it, a girlfriend called - the one who just starts talking and doesn't stop no matter what. i could be having a heart attack and she would still keep going. so i missed the entire episode. i can always catch it again tomorrow night, but i didn't want to wait for louie, so i finally got off the phone just in time.
wow - it was an intense episode. funny, but scary and sad since louie was in such terror over seeing his father. the first part of the episode was so funny - that weird ass uncle showing up out of nowhere - louis's expressions and reactions cracked me up.
then the poker game. comedians amaze me - it's an eat or be eating kind of territory, but you sense how close the bonds are. louie spitting up like an infant was funny, and i'm not the kind of chick who likes watching other people puke on tv.
that trip to see his father was wild. louie arguing with his gps - and that guy he almost got into a fight with! that is what i love about his show. you can't always predict how a scene is going to go and i loved that short but hilarious interchange between louis and that beefy guy.
but the ending - wow. i was like - louie, what are you DOING? this isn't you! i was afraid he would end up killing himself - the throwing up, his rash, the nosebleed - he was like a ticking bomb. all of the sudden it almost turned into a 70's cop show - stealing a bike, stealing a boat, running for his life, etc. but the ending was true louis. poignant. he always leaves me wanting more.

I really enjoyed this week's show, but not as much as the Never episode. Personally, I loved the jokes in the segment about his father where the car rental attendant and the GPS seem to be commenting on his thoughts unbidden. That, and the gag where the security cam footage showed a pudgier guy as himself, illustrate the gift Louie has for taking the small, personal truths and feelings we all have and channeling them into a bigger picture.

wilfred wasn't bad last night - ryan came clean to jenna about his part in her live broadcast meltdown, which i thought would have had huge repercussions, but it seemed to have a happy ending. seeing wilfred admit his love for cats was entertaining. but ryan's father was brought up again, so it is inevitable that he will be brought into the story. i'm curious who they will get to play him. i guess none of this matters, since it appears i am the only one on the board who watches this show.
louie was interesting. at least we know liz (parker posey) will hopefully return. that first part with the reallyreallyreally weird girl who insisted on helping him find her was just flat out bizarre, but funny. the second part, where lily disappears, was tense - louis does a good job of blending pathos with comedy. i've noticed they are slightly developing lily's character, making her more into a bookish, nerdy girl, which is great. but she's getting old enough now to fight back when she feels ganged up on. jane is just impossibly cute.
the ending was good, but kind of anti climatic. his last minute of standup was great, though, really good stuff, imo.

^from the 8/23 episode louis began the first of a three parter last thursday that looks to be interesting. after a short segment on the tonight show turned into the pressure of replacing a no-show tom cruise, louis wakes up to dozens of messages from his hilariously infantile looking agent, telling him he was a huge hit (even though we don't see anything but the chaos backstage before he's pushed on stage). he's expected to meet the president of cbs, leslie moonves, who tells him david letterman is going to retire soon and they are considering louis to replace him. louis is suitably floored and immediately turns it down, saying they should get seinfield. moonves tells louis the facts - they prefer seinfield, but they could save a lot of money if louis is willing to try it. i loved the framing of the shot in this scene, as moonves is giving louis a hell of a lot of tough love, telling him he's doing okay in the business, but he peaked years ago and soon he will be teaching comedy at community colleges instead of living it. you see moonves as if sitting where louis is - he looks larger than life and very intimidating. the first part ends with louis sitting in stunned silence, weighing his options. definitely looking forward to how this plays out. wilfred was awesome - the best episode so far this season, imo. wilfred doses ryan a hallucinogenic drug he buys that is supposed to produce a spirit guide to answer a question about yourself. ryan, unprepared, is freaked out, but wilfred freaks out more when ryan's question is: what is wilfred? wilfred kills red wolf, the spirit guide, and doses ryan again. but ryan finds out what is giving him panic attacks every time he hears his sister's newborn baby cry. the way they get there was trippy and funny, with a touching ending. definitely the best one of the season. i wish someone else here watched this freaking show!

wilfred ran the season finale last night - three months - what a short season. it wasn't bad, but wouldn't you know at the very end i got a call i had to take and missed the last second cliff hanger. i'm glad it will come back on saturday night so i can see what happened. i was sure they would finally bring in whoever is going to be ryan's father for the season ender, but he's still a no show. they've been leading up to it all season. louie - i don't know if last night was the finale or not. either way, it was GREAT. the last of the 3 parter, involving louie and his journey to host late night. you could see it in every line of him in all three shows how much he didn't want to do it - he didn't want to have to change, give up time with his daughters and sell out. but he was faced with the reality of what his future would be if he pissed this opportunity away. his angst over this was played beautifully. david lynch - holy cats, he was awesome. maybe the funniest part of the whole thing. the other cameos by leno (i usually find him annoying, but he was great in his part of the show), chris rock and seinfield were excellent. it was funny that this whole thing was about someone taking over letterman's spot and he was never even in it. when louie realizes he's been had and then you actually see him want it, want something - it was a great moment. the ending was very louis ck. perfect.

i saw wilfred without interruption tonight. there is a photo on ryan's fridge of himself as a child with his mother, working on a picture together. in the finale, wilfred confronts ryan with a childishly drawn picture he said he found in ryan's things and demands to know the meaning of it. it's a picture a young ryan drew of himself with his family - but hovering above them is a drawing of a dog, obviously wilfred, hiding behind a tree, watching them.
both ryan and wilfred claim they had nothing to do with the picture. at the end of the episode, ryan and wilfred are smoking cigars (so hilarious), talking about the abrupt ending to ryan and amanda's relationship, and wilfred admits he drew the picture to screw with ryan's head.
but at the very end, ryan, seeming content (for once), goes to get something out of his fridge and nearly does a spit take when he takes a second look of the pic on the fridge - he gets a magnifying glass and studies it and you can see the picture of wilfred behind the tree is next to ryan on a table, which means ryan did draw wilfred as a child, long before wilfred came into his life. *cue dramatic music*

i reeaally hope someone other than me watched the season finale of louis last night. it's strange to say that as crude as he can be in his stand up sometimes, that he reminds me of my beloved chaplin. but he blends comedy and tragedy so well it's almost too good. the first five minutes was some of the funniest i've ever seen from him. it's christmas morning and louis has the girls at his apartment. as they cheerfully rip open their gifts, louis is the perfect picture of misery on the couch, barely able to summons a smile for them. but you get to see the hell he went through to get their presents for them. the funniest part is his battle of wits against a doll that arrived with no eyes. they came loose and are rolling around somewhere in the doll's head. watching louis retrieve these eyes and the problems that crop up because of it is hilarious. honestly. it just keeps going - except for his salty comments (and occasional tears) it's mostly silent comedy at its finest for our time. i was much impressed with amy poehler's short performance as louis's younger sister. it was the first time i've ever seen her do anything remotely serious and she was great. there is a short scene where louis has a dream of jane and lily, his two daughters, grown up, discussing how sad it is that he is so alone. it's funny in a way to hear them talk i think we're in our twenties - but almost poe-like in it's delivery. and parker posey returned, but for the last time. literally. it was terribly sad SPOILERS since she and louis had about two seconds of joy at their unexpected reunion, only to die minutes later in the hospital (we're not sure of what, perhaps cancer) right at 11:59 p.m. on new year's eve, as lous stands helplessly by her bed. he plans on joining his sister and her family in mexico, but at the last minute he decides to go to china instead and find the beautiful river he and his daughter admired in one of her story books he gave her for christmas. seeing louis, more alone than ever now with the language barrier, is poignant and honestly, lovely. it had the most uplifting ending, very beautiful and louis-like. this show is really worth it. no doubt about it, my favorite thing on tv now.

Sorry, been busy. I've love Louie straight through. Having Lynch on the show was nothing short of sublime for me. His odd sense of humor fit right in, and you can tell Louie has to be a fan of his work to have integrated him into the story in such a way. A hundred actors could have played that part, but none of them would have done it the way Lynch did.
The opening of the finale was laugh out loud funny. That bit with the doll encapsulates so many different moments I've lived through, as have we all. And it was just capped off with his kid's oblivious happiness with her Christmas present. And the ending...it's like he is trying to affirm my darkest secrets that life is meaningless and when we die, the light goes out forever.
I'm glad he won the emmy, but I missed his acceptance speech. Was it good?

i missed it! i should have known louis would be a winner, but i shun all award shows because i find them mind numbingly boring and i think the really creative people never get the recognition they deserve - but i was proved wrong since louis was finally acknowledged for his talent. i wonder what he really thinks of it - if he is really thrilled or thinks it's all bullsh*t. i hope the latter. and i agree totally about lynch. he was my dark god of the 80's and early '90's and no one else would have thought to use him as that character but louis. it was a genius move.
