This thing simultaneously impressed me and freaked me out in only the way technology can. You could have fun playing this thing for hours. en.akinator.com/To test its knowledge, I chose Mr. Belvedere because I thought it was way out of left field. It got it in 16 questions.

It eventually got Joel Robinson for me. Got it on the second guess. Its first guess was Fire Marshall Jim from In Living Color Interesting!

I wonder if it knows Mr Beardsley from Squirm.
Hmmm...
Edit: NOPE!

Maybe because Mr Beardsley never existed as an on screen person?
Anyway, it just figured out Bob from Batman (1989). Again, I am impressed.

It's possible. It was kind of a trick answer.
I figured out long ago that the trick to beating those 20 Questions machines was to pick someone just minor enough that the mainstream probably wouldn't think of it. For example, it knew who Godzilla and Spider-Man were, but if I thought of King Ghidorah or Gwen Stacy, it was going to fail. It's not that they're obscure, but people would most likely go for the big dogs over those two.
From what I gather this is a database of entries that might or might not be constantly growing. When I give a character that's not in its database, it asks me who it is for future reference, so it most likely has a good deal of cult characters such as Bob from Batman and whatnot. It actually had Cheryl from Evil Dead in its database, but for whatever reason it thought I was talking about the kid from Poltergeist.
But it doesn't have everyone. I just used Galen from the Planet of the Apes TV series and he wasn't in there. It did guess Dr. Zaius and Cornelius before I decided to stop after about 80 questions, so it was close (Galen was played by Roddy MacDowell, so points for actually trying).

Eh. Two in a row that it's telling me my choices weren't age appropriate, even though they were in PG and PG-13 movies, and weren't objectional characters in the slightest.
Oh well. Kind of bored with it anyway. But it was cute for a little bit.

Ha - I was thinking of Selene from Underworld, he guessed Alice from Resident Evil. After I gave him a second chance, he got it after 5 or 6 questions (I thought he was off the wrong track, but then suddenly he asked if she was a vampire and got it right after)
On my second go, he got it, though it sounded like he was going for Mary Jane and asked if she was in Spider-Man. When I said no he guessed Pepper Potts. I wonder if he'd know Bethany Cabe (Iron Man's other love)?
Update with Beth: First try he guessed Kate Bishop from Hawkeye comics. Then Sharon Carter from Captain America and then he tried guessing that it was a made up character, before he gave up and looked grumpy. I added her name to the database.

I think he blew up. He just stopped playing and it went back to the first screen. Big baby.

Yeah, I've heard of this thing, it's pretty cool.
He got Crow T. Robot pretty quickly, but he wasn't able to guess The Nanites.

It guessed John Crichton from Farscape correctly, but guessed first that it was one of the characters from Firefly. ;D
Imagine all the info that has to be stored in these types of things?

I beat it with Ingmar Bergman. I knew it would have some problems with artsy fartsy things. So I cheated a little...
