So I've had my eye on that Abbott and Costello Complete Universal Pictures Collection for quite some time. Well, I finally ponied up the dough to buy it. Mostly because if was reduced to $60 on Amazon compared to its usual 90. Anywho, I've been making my way throught these movies and I've reached Who Done It?, which is so far the funniest of the lot. I skimmed the extras for this particular film in the collection and at the top of the list "Audio Commentary by Film Historian Frank Coniff."
Insert double take here.
Frank Coniff? Our Frank Coniff? TV's Frank Coniff?
Turned the commentary on and yes indeedie, it's Frank! He even introduces himself as from MST and plugs Cinematic Titanic in the intro! Haven't listened to the rest (I want to finish the movies before I play with the commentaries) but that was a pleasant surprise.
Now, I'm not surprised that Frank is a Bud and Lou fan, now knowing that he is makes me love him even more. What glared out at me was him being billed as a "film historian." I knew Frank was a movie buff, but this is the first time I've heard him refered to as a historian. I guess when I think of historians I think of people so devoted that they've writen books and make documentaries on their subjects, which I don't think Frank has ever done. Maybe I'm taking the term too seriously though. He's a fan and he probably knows a lot about A&C. Still, maybe "Comedian Frank Coniff" might have been a more fitting title.
But then again, this is a pretty "Who cares?" thread I've started. I was just happy to see Frank's name there.

Frank was always known as the guy who knew the most random things about any movie in existence back when MST was but a toddling thing. It's awesome he (and the rest of the Brains) have carved out careers doing what they love most!

That was my understanding as well - that he was a serious student of all things film. I miss good old Frank. I could go for a Thruster Buster right about now.
