The films on MST can be criticized for many things, bad acting, lousy/lack of plot, cheap "special" effects . But one of the things that annoys me the most is the tedium of some films . So I ask you my fellow MSTies, what would be your choice for the most tedious scene in MST movie? My choices: The never ending sky fight scenes in Invasion of the Neptune Men The tedious scene in Horrors of Spider Island where the women walked around shouting "Gary."

Rock climbing, Ray.
Rock. Climbing.

I enjoyed both the movie and the episode, but the scene in The Final Sacrifice where Rowsdower is dreaming about the night the cult branded him, especially with the brander's approach being repeated several times, was pretty excruciating.

Well, this is an embarrassment of riches.
The scene in Indestructible Man with the dance hall gal and the cop, that had Joel and the bots begging for it to end.
The pill taking scene in Wild Wild World of Batwoman.
Of course, Rock Climbing and Sandstorm.
Mountain cows--nothing scarier.

The endless driving scenes in "Manos" The Hands of Fate.
Or...
The endless aerial refueling scenes in The Starfighters.

Any extended scene (or full-length movie) that features narration instead of dialogue is really tough for me. Monster A-GoGo and Creeping Terror come immediately to mind.
Also, any time the dialogue is happening off camera and we get a shot of a different character just standing there listening, my eyelids start to sag. Coleman Francis, I'm looking at you.
I've never minded the sandstorm or the rock climbing. I think the Mads made those out to be worse than they actually were. For real tedium, you need to go with something like the never-ending drinking scenes in The Killer Shrews or the agonizing pool/lab scenes in Blood Waters of Dr. Z.

Those are all good choices. But the judges speech in EP #610 the Violent Years comes to mind..

Those are all good choices. But the judges speech in EP #610 the Violent Years comes to mind.. Perhaps it wasn't tedious as such, but it was so painfully ludicrous that I found myself giggling without the aid of Mike and the Bots. Perhaps we need to forcibly drag our kids to church, then out behind the woodshed to beat the love of God into them. Oh, man, was that ever horrific. The judge in The Violent Years made the judge in I Accuse My Parents sound like a kindergarten teacher by comparison.

Well, this is an embarrassment of riches. The scene in Indestructible Man with the dance hall gal and the cop, that had Joel and the bots begging for it to end. The pill taking scene in Wild Wild World of Batwoman. Of course, Rock Climbing and Sandstorm. I loved Crow's meltdown during that scene in Indestructible Man: "Turn it off! Turn it off!"The pill-taking scene in Batwoman made me want to knee the movie in the groin, and snag on it, and give it a power sit-up. Even so, I could never have hurt that movie as bad as it hurt me. Rock Climbing was actually funny, thanks to the heroic action of Joel and the Bots. The Sandstorm scene in Hercules Vs. The Moon Men, however, damn' near destroyed my will to live. Even with Joel and the Bots taking their courageous stand, that scene still left me feeling beat down and utterly hopeless.

So many of the best choices have been taken but let me offer up all of The Castle of Fu Manchu as the most tedious sequence in any MST3K'd movie. Extensive use of stock footage cribbed from three other movies, the endless zoom shots, the big pauses in everyone's conversations...ugh. If I had to pick any one scene from that movie as the most tedious it'd probably be the operation scene. Without the (very funny) riffing it'd be unbearable, I'm sure, because it shows almost nothing--mostly closeups of faces or of a ticking clock--but it drags on forever and with no other accompaniment but that insipid music.

I have two words in response to the question.
Coleman Francis.
Any ten seconds from any of his films automatically barges to the front of the line as most tedious ever.
