Bum Phillips who coached the Houston Oilers and the New Orleans Saints died at the age of 90, on Friday October 18th, his son announced. Phillips led the Oilers two two AFC championship games, and also coached the New Orleans Saints before briefly becoming a broadcaster and retiring to his ranch in Texas. He served in the Marines during World War II and assisted such coaches as Hayden Fry and Bear Bryant, before moving to the professional level. He was famous for his no nonsense demeanor, and his "Bum-isms" , such as "Football is a game a failure, you fail all the time but you don't become a failure until you blame someone else." . He gained the nickname Bum after his younger sister couldn't pronounce brother, asked about the nickname he said, " I don't mind being called Bum as long as you don't but a 'you' in front of it." espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9846447/bum-phillips-former-coach-houston-oilers-new-orleans-saints-dies-age-90
