Ralph Waite, who played patriarch John Walton on The Waltons died Thursday, February 13th at the age of 85. Before turning to acting Waite worked as an ordained minister and a social worker. In addition to his role on The Waltons, Waite had recurring roles on NCIS and Bones, and earned an Emmy nod for his work in Roots. In 1975, Waite founded the award-winning Los Angeles Acting Theatre with $50,000 of his own money, a recovering alcoholic, Waite used his experience to make the film On The Nickel and had bit parts in the films Cool Hand Luke and Five Easy Pieces. www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/waltons-actor-ralph-waite-dead-680278

He also served in the Marine Corps. OOOHHHRAH!!! RIP.
I watched The Waltons as a kid. It was one of the shows our whole family watched together.

Always liked his portrayal of John Walton, it's a show I grew up watching.
