This is it... The big one. Who do you prefer, Joel Hodgson or Mike Nelson? I've always like Joel more, everything about his character is perfect. I love Mike, but he just can't compare to Joel's sense of humor and relationship with the bots. What about you guys?

I'm sure it has been, but I couldn't find a thread on the front page and I'd like to her some peoples' opinions on it.

That's a pretty rough topic for your first post, man. There's a reason you don't see much discussion of it around here.

This is my choice for favorite host:
Hopefully someone will create Iowa soon.

I like both.
But as I've stated before, in general I find myself pulling a Mike episode off the shelf, more than I do a Joel episode. Not a knock on Joel specifically, it's just I consider the majority of the EXCELLENT episodes to be from the Mike-era, while, to me, comparatively speaking, I can't recall too many standout Joel episodes (well, I'm sure I could if I voluntarily made a list).

Thank you for the link, Triple_sSs. Obviously it's a classic dead horse, just like any big x vs x in a fandom.

Not trying to be a jerk, Frosty, and if the admins say it's cool and other members want to do it, by all means go for it. It's just always been a pretty taboo subject (for a long, long time, and not just for me). That said, this thread isn't locked yet, so maybe that's a sign of endorsement from the higher ups. And welcome to the board, by the way

My understanding is "Joel Vs. Mike" threads are okay, as long as there isn't an over abundance of them (one thread every 4 or 5 months for example), and as long as there isn't any heated arguing.

That's very possible, and maybe I spoke out of line. I honestly can't remember ever seeing a Joel vs. Mike thread on the board, though I'm sure there have been. And members around here aren't that prone to getting nasty about, well, anything really. It used to be such a charged, highly personal debate. Maybe that's not the case as much as it was before. Time changes everything, right? And again, didn't mean to come off so icy to you, Frosty. Now, back to your thread.

I'm going to go with Richard Dawson. "Let's see if it's up there. Richard Dawson? DINGDINGDINGDING... It's our number two answer!" I concur with Mod City with welcoming Frosty to the board. I do love both hosts. I came into the show in the early years so Joel is who I connect with a little better. When he left I didn't have cable in the area I moved into at the time and all I knew was that he left the show and that someone else had replaced him. I had to call a friend back where I came from to watch the show for me and tell me who it was. When he told me some guy named Mike Nelson I smiled and sayed "Oh, Mike. That's cool. He's been on the show for a long time." When we finally got cable into our area it was just at the end of season five. I admit it took me a few episodes to get used to Mike playing the lead and not a wonderful guess role, but once I was used to him it was all fine with me. Then the show left Comedy Central for the SciFi Channel, which of course my cable company didn't carry. Huuuuh. So I had an on & off relationship with the show. I'm sorry, what was the question again?

Mike's a more consistent laugh getter.
Joel has an offbeat persona that gives the show a really unique tone.
It's a tie.
