I've purchased every single Rhino and Shout! set brand new on the release date since Vol 1, so I've spent a lot more than that. But at least I spent it over time, not all at once! Easier to take that way, but I would hate to tally up what the total comes to since that first purchase.

That's about how much you'll have to pay to get the Rhino set with Godzilla vs. Megalon. Why is that set so much?? Out of print and very popular I assume. I bought that one years ago when they first released it.

I was smart when I bought the MST3K movie on DVD. I'm not sure what happened to my VHS copy, but the DVD was such a limited release that it went for around 200-300 dollars on ebay. I waited around 4 months, and then what do I see on the Wal-Mart shelves? The re-release DVD copy of the movie! I don't think my feet even touched the ground as I took it and ran to the front registers!
Beyond that, I've been finding volumes at the better prices, sometimes splurging for the $40 volumes, and the single DVD releases of episodes that I liked. My brother gave me Red Zone Cuba and Manos the Hands of Fate for Christmas and my wife gave me The Gunslinger for my Birthday 2 years ago. Still collecting them little by little.

I remember seeing the exorbitant prices on ebay back then.

Rhino didn't have permission to release the Godzilla movie; don't remember if this was a misunderstanding on their part or negotiations broke down or whatever, but Toho had them cease and desist.
