Some incredible stats coming out of his tributes today:
543 doubles, 434 strikeouts. The only player since 1903 to have more than 500 doubles and less than 500 strikeouts in his career. And that's an average of 21 strikeouts per year in his career. For most players now, that's 2 weeks.
Hit .444 with the bases loaded, and .314 with two strikes.
And my favorite: Faced Greg Maddux 107 times, hit .415 against him and never struck out.
He'll always be the guy who broke my heart in the 1984 NLCS, but he was one of the all-time best.
