Wow. This is a shock. I loved Mork and Mindy, and I also enjoyed his sinister turns in Insomnia and One Hour Photo. RIP Robin Williams.

he definitely could be versatile. a co worker and i were talking about his movies, and he made some real bombs, but he did more good work than bad. i was a rabid mork & mindy fan when i was a kid. back when tv was so religiously scripted, there was no one out there like him at the time - the only other person i could think of would be john ritter. i was thinking about his movies i loved -the world according to garp, dead poets society, good morning vietnam, and his funniest (imo), the birdcage. i also thought he was really good in the first night at the museum. i watched that show he was in last fall the crazy ones, but i didn't stick with it, but he was great when he appeared on both louie and wilfred. he had so many more things he could have done. there's a line in a charlie chaplin movie that i keep thinking of - "what a sad business it is, being funny."

I mentioned this movie when Peter O'Toole died, but Club Paradise is still one of my favorite movies. I think he even mentioned once he didn't know why he did that movie, but I still enjoy it. And it's been a rough year for that flick - Peter O'Toole, Harold Ramis, now Robin Williams. I'm not sure it's even available on DVD, though I'd love to get a copy. I still have it on VHS somewhere.
Of course, Dead Poets Society was excellent. And I didn't realize it, but he was apparently in A Wish For Wings That Work, the Bloom County Christmas special that aired in 1991. A really interesting career.

He was a guest star in an old episode of Homicide I just saw a couple weeks ago, by strange coincidence.
I liked a lot of his dramatic work (One Hour Photo being a real standout for me) but I was not a huge fan of his comedic style, an opinion that has made me not particularly popular on the Internet the last couple of days.
Nevertheless a very sad way to go and I feel for his family.

no, i get that. i liked williams' comedy when it wasn't so frenzied and spastic; and i think i enjoyed his more serious roles overall. i never said one hour photo, but i heard people either liked it or hated it.

Whether you loved it or hated it, probably the perfect movie to sum up his legacy right now is Patch Adams. A man who's trying to heal the world with laughter only to have it lead to hardship and tragedy along the way, yet the smiles he created along the way will never diappear.

I think I'll have to dig out my VHS copy. Thanks for the reminder.

gag reel from mork and mindy - not the greatest quality - a little language and brief nudity, believe it or not, but funny. and sad. but mostly funny.

Williams' wife just announced that before he died, he was in the early stages of Parkinson's.

Those people give Baptists, and churches in general, a bad name.

Aww. Apparently, even Koko the gorilla misses him. He visited her once and she actually remembers him, and was signing to her friend/handler that she was sad. That's amazing.
It's so sad that so many performers who get into the business of making people laugh have so much inner turmoil themselves. (I was also sad when comedian Richard Jenni took his own life).
Those Westboro f*cks should be shot. I think God hates them.

Both my maternal grandparent's both died from Parkinson's. Though they suffered, we enjoyed many good times. I still appreciate them. Fortunately for me they weren't genius enough to hang themselves with belts.
I am sorry for his family but not for him.
