I'm more inclined to dislike him because that interview points out he was the one that got Malcolm in the Middle on the air. God I hate that show.
I never knew who canceled MST, didn't care to know. The show was on for ten years and I always wore that as a badge of honor whether it was canceled for a reason or not. What I will say is that anybody who sent him a death threat is an embarrassment to our community.

My overall opinion is that while it sucks that Comedy Central canceled MST3K in the first place (despite Sci-Fi Channel picking it up), if it had stayed on that channel much longer, it would have REALLY stuck out like a sore thumb, due to the change in the network's direction.
I feel the same way about MST3K towards the end of its run on Sci Fi Channel. Even as late as 2003, while it was nice seeing reruns, the network itself had changed quite a bit from the way it was in 1997, and MST3K really didn't fit anymore (neither did "Farscape" either, to be honest).

I mean I did an entire podcast where I bashed on this guy to no end for canceling MST, But I'll go even further than that and say I think He is the human personification of everything that is wrong with Modern Television.

No, I'm fairly certain Jeff Zucker (former president of NBC) holds that title.

"Getting low ratings" ?
Please. Comedy Central was just getting sick of MST all together. *eye roll*

What I will say is that anybody who sent him a death threat is an embarrassment to our community. Totally agree, and it's not the first time I've heard someone say they got a very, very harsh reaction from MST3K fans. Weird to think it, as the cast and crew have always talked about how nice their fans are, but I guess you only have to look at the old Mike vs. Joel days to realize they overreact like any other fan base.

Back when I first got involved in organized MST fandom in early 1997, Herzog-bashing was quite a popular pastime. This just reminds me of how deeply I hated him back then.

Okay, getting death threats was certainly not warranted. But the guy acted like a jerk towards the MSTies, and took apart a lot of what made The First Network Which Shall Remain Nameless so good in the first place. And he used the same routine that Bonnie Hammer would later use at The Second Network Which Shall Remain Nameless: if I wasn't a part of a show, it's gone.

Bonnie Hammer is probably more hated than Herzog. Pissing off MSTies, Farscapers, and classic Battlestar Galactica fans has to be some sort of record! Her appearance in a documentary on the rebooted BSG cemented my impression that she knows little about science fiction in general. (She talked about wanting to get a cute dog on the show or something.) I've heard her last appearance at a sci fi con to promote the channel got a little ugly.

And then the guy that took over Sci Fi Channel after Bonnie left (forgot his name) remarked (after being asked about putting reruns back on) that he never met anyone who watched more than 20 minutes of MST3K.

I wouldn't heed anything he says. Shout Factory can attest that there are plenty of people who watch more than 20 minutes of MST.

Thing is I've heard about death threats being sent when any popular show gets canceled, every fanbase has it's nut jobs! That interview really just shows how dismissive of the fanbase he is and it content to make out we are all broken in the head because a small handful of extreme people sent him empty death threats.
