I like the idea of one Joel episode per set going forward. The most likely unreleased Joel episode is "Fire Maidens", but I am going to predict "Attack of the Eye Creatures", assuming that Shout finally confirms that Susan Hart does NOT have a claim to this movie as a remake.

Yeah, pretty much what Diet Kolos said. UNLESS Shout manages to surprise us, either this could be the last set featuring the original episodes (assuming the new series does volume packs as well), or 2017 could potentially be the last year we get DVD box sets of Mst3k.

I agree that it doesn't look promising. I think that we are all hoping that SF can pull another rabbit out of their hats when it comes to the missing episodes, but at some point soon, even their best efforts will likely not be good enough.

As far as future sets go, unless SF can come up with some surprises, I'd say we're done getting four new episodes in each volume, at the very least.

Perhaps SF will start including the episodes that Rhino put out as single discs in their volumes to keep the 4 disc sets going for a bit longer? That way, if SF could only get the rights to two or three new episodes for Volume XXXIX they could put episodes like I Accuse My Parents on there to get it to four discs. If they put new special features on the re-released episodes I wouldn't mind it. But I suppose we'll see.

I honestly hope that the next set will have the remaining *easy to get* titles, be it 4, 5,6 titles. Or maybe take some more singles and add them to volumes.
Including singles from Rhino or Shout Select would be fine with me too ( for shelf space) Id especially would want The Giant Gila Monster and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians

Well, I wouldn't mind if they started releasing entire disks of archival BB footage in place of releasable episodes in future sets, rather than save them for limited bonus discs. There must be hours of footage that is already floating around on fan-made compilations, let alone all the stuff we've never seen!

So basically we have:

2 episodes that should easily be accessible. (602 and 623)
4 eps that require a bit of digging. (605, 618, 913, and 1013)
5 eps held by Paramount but leased out elsewhere. (416, 601, 905, 906, and 1013)
5 eps that are, or may be, controlled by Susan Hofheinz (309, 311, 418, 807, and 809)
2 eps held by Toho and Wade Williams (201 and 213)

I may not know anything about the process, but I have faith Shout should be able to get all the first two categories. Three of the Paramount titles could revert in time for next year. That would give 9 episodes, enough for two more sets. If they negotiate with Paramount and Olive for the other two, they're one short of 3 full sets. Maybe Mr. Williams has a change of heart, or Eye Creatures isn't held by Ms. Hofheinz after all, and that's 3 full sets. A fourth full set would require a deal with Ms. Hofheinz or repeats or other filler. Personally, I can think of no better partner for her to finally release her films than Shout! Their Scream Factory imprint can give them the marquee treatment they deserve, with clean transfers and bonus features aplenty.
