Shout! has released a blu-ray of the unriffed This Island Earth, and I just received it yesterday from Amazon. I wanted to make a thread to spread the word because it is a really excellent release. Aside from the widescreen movie, it also contains the fullframe unmatted version of the film (more space on the top and bottom, formatted for 4:3) PLUS the silent 8MM cut down version AND the 16MM black and white version. There are also commentary tracks, Joe Dante providing commentary for the trailer and for fans of MST3K bonuses an extended version of the TIE documentary included on the MST3K The Movie blu-ray. All-in-all it is a really great supplement to the MST3K Movie blu-ray and a must own for fans. www.shoutfactory.com/product/this-island-earth?product_id=7087

It also has the original Perspecta audio mix, never heard on video, which is an excellent addition. It’s the first time fans will be able to see and hear the film as it was originally released.

Yeah, I've been following the thread on blu-ray.com forums where the Perspecta guy who worked on the Shout release talks a bit about it. He also pointed out that the still gallery about the sound system is missing a slide.

The moment I get some extra cash I want to pick up Shout's 50's Universal sci-fi releases. I want them so bad. Especially The Monolith Monsters.

I was always disappointed that Shout didn't include the unriffed widescreen version of TIE in the MST3K movie set, especially as the film hadn't been released in that format in North America.
Will definitely be picking this up.
