2021 is the year of "Moon Zero Two"! We're just a couple of months away from "Moon Zero Two" Day, on May 9, 2021!

There may still be time to put together an on-line version of the Moonopoly game.

Moon Zero Two for me was easily the best episode from season 1, while the riff pace was certainly still slower then later seasons, the quality of the riffs themselves were legitimately very funny. It was certainly a far cry from the first few season 1 episodes, good stuff!

I'll mark my calendar.
It's such a groovy movie, love the opening song w/animated credit sequence. Plus it's the only (I believe) Hammer film MST3K ever did.

I'll mark my calendar. It's such a groovy movie, love the opening song w/animated credit sequence. Plus it's the only (I believe) Hammer film MST3K ever did. It’s probably became as pulpy as Hammer was, most of there movies were still actually pretty good......maybe less so in the 70’s. However there’s certainly a reason Hammer still has a following today (myself included). Interestingly Moon Zero Two was probably the biggest financial flop in Hammer’s history, and was particularly responsible for the studio’s downfall and eventual collapse. It was still good MST3K fodder, so very dumb, but still kinda unintentionally goofy fun!

I'm a Hammer fan too. Not sure what horror flick would suit the show, maybe the Hammer/Shaw co-production, 7 Golden Vampires? But yeah, they're often really good and more spooky gothic than stupid cheesy. Still, I'm happy they did the one.

I love the movie itself. Its a capture of everything great about near-future space sci-fi in the 60s/70s. I think the plot is very fun too, if only moderately successfully told-- wrangling asteroids for their resources mixed with a murder mystery for moon land rights. Neat, and actual sci-fi.
Plus of course there is -- MOON ZERO TWOOOO! [sang in brassy classic James Bond theme style]

Just finished rewatching this episode, since today is officially Moon Zero Two day.
This is a really good episode. It helps that the movie isn't a slog to get through like Aztec Mummy or Mad Monster, but the riffing is genuinely funnier as well. The riffs are getting faster paced, they're getting more sharp with their commentary, the jokes feel like they had more time to cook here than they did in Aztec Mummy. And the riffing here is definitely better than the KTMAs that I've been watching. The movie is still just as goofy as I remember it being, although rewatching it has helped to make it more coherent. I do think that it's a genuinely decent movie. Sure, it's kind of a mess stylistically, but I like the story of this tyrannical leader trying to profit off on an illegal space journey. The romance here isn't as forced as it in other movies either. Kemp and Clementine actually have a reason to work together because they're searching for her brother. And the reveal of her brother being dead was actually pretty shocking the first time I saw it. It's a solid moment. Sadly, I don't think Moon Zero Two is a top ten episode for me anymore. It's still my favorite season 1 episode, and I think it still deserves an 8 out of 10 for going above and beyond in a season half full of lackluster episodes. However, I might end up moving it down a couple spots simply because it's not as funny as I remember. With that said, Moon Zero Two is still a classic in my eyes and I will always cherish this episode. It's such a great comfort episode for me. It's one that I can always go back to and still get some enjoyment out of. There's still new jokes that I'm picking up even after rewatching it so many times, live the love tester gag and the line about her brother's kneecap. It's the MST3K gift that keeps on giving. Happy Moon Zero Two day, and happy Mother's Day too! Maybe if both you and your mom are fans of MST3K, try giving this episode a watch. It's certainly a weird way to celebrate Mother's Day, but I think you'll enjoy it.

Sure, it's kind of a mess stylistically See, I think that's one of the best aspects of the movie, that it transposes a traditional western plot and characters (even their names) into a sci-fi setting.

I like it too, for sure. It's an interesting combination, but it does kinda feel like the film doesn't know what it wants to be at times. But it's definitely a style you won't see in any other MST3K film. So, I gotta give it points for that.
