Yeah, the season overall has been spotty, but Christmas Dragon was a legit episode. Lots of big laughs from me.

Hmm. I tried to watch it. The opening was okay, although I just don't feel the comedic talent and timing as when I watch class MST3K eps, both Joel and Mike eras. Then the riffing started, and I went wait, what, they're just going to have the different crews taking turns riffing? That doesn't sound that special, and maybe a little annoying. Sos I turned it off.

per today's KS update, people who bought the year-long pass will have permanent access to all the content released during Season 13 after the sub expires in March and there will be a preorder for the next Gizmoplex Pass. Sounds like there will be a dead period until that next Gizmoplex Pass as they are still working on plans for Season 14.

So glad the Kickstarter content is forever. I was debating ripping all the videos because I have not seen all the new material in the live streams and did not have the time to watch it all before the end of February. I do really hope the vault pick sketches are presented in a super cut on the eventual blu-ray. As others have mentioned in the official forums, the content IS thanks to Kickstarter supporters so they should allow us to watch it again.

Well, last month of Gizmoplex subscription for me. May as well try and watch 1312 & 1313 before the month is out. I did pay for them, it'd be a waste not to.

You won't lose access to episodes 12-13 at the end of the month. They'll still be yours to watch/download after your subscription ends.

Following from afar (aall the way down here in forrestcrow/mst-relaunch), has there been any more chatter about what happens after this month?

Following from afar (aall the way down here in forrestcrow/mst-relaunch), has there been any more chatter about what happens after this month? I'm curious too. I did hear they were selling the new season for $150, which some people were complaining about on Reddit. Didn't hear anything about a new season, but I'd expect an announcement soon. The Kickstarter subscriptions are expiring around now, aren't they?

They announced season 14 at the season 13 live finale in December, but no new news since then.

Yeah I took that as they're going to do another fundraise/pledge drive but no Kickstarter or third-party this time, it'll be done through the Gizmoplex. Dismayed that they haven't gotten started on the new season this year, but it might be for the best after how season 13 turned under the conditions they were in. They might be working on getting their own studios and offices and working on making the show like they used to.
side note: i noticed they're doing the tributes now the way they should have been doing them last year: doing live riff and commentary during the episodes like they did during the KS year, actually giving me a reason to watch and enjoy the episode.
Per today's KS update: Next week's Short, the last one, is the one that is co-written by KS backers who pledged for the RIFF A SHORT WITH JOEL reward.
No telling what is going on with the Gizmoplex after everyone's sub expires but i dont see myself continuing to sub just for these tribute events, even if they do have the fun live commentary again.

No telling what is going on with the Gizmoplex after everyone's sub expires... Combine these two thoughts, and my guess is the fundraiser/pledge will essentially be "pre-ordering" next year of sub to Gizmoplex for another season. Oh and of course at all kinds of levels with bonuses mimicking the KS rewards.

I think it's the rotating cast that killed my interest in the show, oddly enough. I'm not sure why, but it just doesn't feel like MST3k anymore. I liked the feel of the original and that included them sticking to the theme of Joel being stuck in space with his robot pals and Dr F and Erhardt and Frank being mad scientists. They really didn't ever break the fourth wall* and stayed true to character and plot. Even if you didn't love the skits, the feel bled through into the movie watching / riffing experience. At least that was my feeling. Even when Mike came in, they wrote it into the plot and played to it like a plot development of a real show. The whole replaceable cast and now rotating cast gives it a cardboard feel almost like the whole thing is just a throwaway contrivance. *they actually didn't have a fourth wall, the plot was that they were on a show that was being broadcast. talking to us was part of the plot and it was the characters talking to us. fun. Totally agree with this. I may be in a minority but I actually love the host segments in the original mst. Definitely didn’t love them in s11 and so I didn’t even finish it, and haven’t seen any of 12 or 13. I feel a bit like a traitor saying that, particularly because I was actually IN the last episode of the 11th season. Don’t get me wrong, I like the riffing too! That also felt very different tonally in the reboot, and to me not in a good way. The riffs were more like Hollywood joke writer schtick and not the droll Midwestern observational humor from the original. I’ve watched Rifftrax, CT and every show of The Mads are Back, but as you say, the framing of the show as done on the original just made the whole package far more appealing. If you’re watching a movie with characters you feel you know, and they make wisecracks, it’s an even better experience. But if you’re watching a movie and random people are just ridiculing it, they’re just assholes. My two cents anyway. For me mst ended in 1999, basically.

It's okay to not like the newer format. Joel and company were experimenting, and it hit for some people and didn't hit for a lot of other people. (I personally really liked the general "framework" of season 11 from a 'show design' standpoint, and the meta commentary of everything being shinier and glitzier to go along with the plot of Kinga trying to make it a marketable viewing product with mass market appeal, but I can see how that would've been a turnoff for some people)
