Truly a literal end of an era. And a long and eventful one, at that. Ninety-six. I really thought the old gal would make it past 100. I think the death of her husband made her lose her fire a bit.

RIP Long live the king
She served her country with honor as best she knew how to.

Yeah. Like, I admit I never paid her much mind, and a lot of people have *opinions* on her passing, but she always seemed to be dignified. Ignoring the obvious perks of being a literal monarch, it can't have always been an easy gig.

Yeah. Like, I admit I never paid her much mind, and a lot of people have *opinions* on her passing, but she always seemed to be dignified. Ignoring the obvious perks of being a literal monarch, it can't have always been an easy gig. She lived in a fishbowl for her whole life. She was raised with a set of values more like the 19th century than the 20th, never mind the 21st century. But unlike many conservatives, she was willing to slowly change for the good of her country. She didn't allow her son to marry the woman he loved and pressured him into marrying someone totally wrong for him. The children turned out well. The marriage was a disaster. Her grandkids married whoever they wanted to. She allowed herself to slowly change. People followed her like many Russians follow Putin. But she couldn't start unnecessary wars. She was old fashioned but she didn't spread hatred.
