Comedian and actor Richard Lewis died 2/27/24 of a heart attack at 76. I liked him. He was funny. I remember seeing him on a Young Comedians special on HBO. It was quite an episode. It featured Lewis, Jerry Seinfeld, Howie Mandell, Paul Reiser, Harry Anderson and I can't remember who else, I think there were more, and it was hosted by The Smothers Brothers. Quite the funny episode indeed. (Edit: Maybe it's on YouTube). Another Edit: Or, heck, maybe it's still on HBO.
I saw Lewis on quite a few more comedy specials and I liked his standup. I didn't watch Curb Your Enthusiasm (he was on that, too), but maybe I should, from the bits I have seen of it it seems funny.
I remember Richard Lewis on a TV show in the 80's with Alan Arkin. I just looked up what the title was because I couldn't remember, I had only remembered that the title was the main character's (Arkin) first name -- it was Harry. It didn't last long, but I remembered thinking it had funny moments. The one moment that did stick out in my memory involved Lewis. There was supposed to be a surprise birthday party for Harry and the other characters were wondering why it never came to fruition and I just remember Lewis' character saying, "I don't know, they put me in charge - just didn't happen." I don't know if those were the exact words, but I just thought it was funny.
Sad. He had recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's as well.
He had been one of my favorite comedians back in the day.

I always liked him. I thought he was already dead. Maybe thinking of Gary Shandling, who I also like and I think had similar comedic tendencies.
I'm pretty sure I have a memory of Lewis having his own TV show for a season or so that centered on his comedic style. (...google... Anything But Love, and it actually ran 4 season and costarted Jamie Lee Curtis!)
Ah the late 80s.
