Hey fellow MSTies, I'm new to this discussion board. I've been watching MST3K since 1993.
I have recently been looking for information on the making of Coleman Francis' movies. I am intensely curious as to what was going through his head, what his motivations were, and what was the nature of his relationship with Tony Cardoza.
I have found an interview with Tony Cardoza that reveals some surprising (to me) information at this site: www.bmonster.com/profile37.html. The interviewer is the semi-famous Tom Weaver. It is mainly focused on the making of "The Beast of Yucca Flats", which I have regrettably never seen. Among the notable revelations: Cardoza did not know Francis before "TBOYF" was made, Cardoza did the bulk of the editing for all of Francis' films (so he's the one to blame), and Cardoza "never saw [Francis] drink a drop. Not even a beer...." [!!] I always assumed that they were drinking buddies, but apparently that was not the case.
Tony Cardoza seems to have a fine sense of humor about those movies, and an interesting biography. I would like to know more details about him and Coleman Francis, the making of "The Skydivers" and "Red Zone Cuba", and basically any clue as to Francis' true nature and intentions in making these films. I have found "RZC" perversely fascinating and "The Skydivers" oddly enjoyable. Maybe there's a side of me that just likes to torture the rest of myself!
Anyway, if any of you could fill me in on more details, or give links to websites devoted to these topics, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm sure you guys can help me out.
P.S. Does anyone know if Cardoza's autobiography "From Hartford to Hollywood" has been published? I couldn't find it anywhere on the Internet.
