Hi,
Okay, a lot of you have MST3K episodes on DVD. Cool. I bought a computuer DVD player JUST so I could burn my episodes to discs. The problem is, a standard DVD is 120 minutes and a standard MST3K episode is 140-180 minutes. How does one compress the episode to fit on a disk?
Thanks Much!

140 to 180 minutes? Have you tried cutting out the commercials? The episodes are actually approx. 90 minutes each.

Yep that's the ticket, cut out the commercials. That should lower it down the the standard MST3K size of 1 hour and 30-34 minutes.
That should work,

It aired in a two hour time slot so even with ads it's abiut 120 minutes. Where did you see that 180 min episode?

The short answer to your question is to capture the video with capture hardware and software (too many examples to mention) edit the commercials out with a nonlinear video editing program (Adobe Premier, VirtualDub, and many others). Then, create an MPEG-II (TMPGEnc, Adobe Premiere, Ulead DVD MovieFactory). Finally, publish to DVD with a DVD authoring program. At the point where you create the file, you should be able to specify the bitrate for audio and video. Most good converters have a chart that will allow you to match the bitrate in a manner that maximizes the use of available space on a DVD. It's a great hobby, but prepare to be sucked in. Please share your results and convert some new MSTies.
