When I started watching way back I remember I liked the movie part right away but it took a bit longer for the host segments. I think maybe because they looked like a cheap kiddie show (they do) and I wasn't familiar with the characters. I came to appreciate them but I didn't right at first. How about you? Always loved them for the reasons you first did not. Love the ow budget feel and they were always so funny and clever

The very first thing I saw was the "Wish Squisher" Host segment for Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. Hooked me instantly. I almost screwed up Christmas at our house wanting to watch the rest of the show rather than open presents. When a show comes between you and unbridled avarice its got to be that good!

I first saw the Joel era and liked the host segs right off the bat. It was my kind of comedy, it struck the right chord. Later on when I got my hands on some Sci-fi eps, the host segs left me a bit disappointed. But after a brief warm-up period I grew to love 'em too. I couldn't imagine the show without them, they only add to the fun.

I enjoyed the host segments from the start. I was always looking for the bits that you could take more than one way.
Those always made me laugh the most.
I also enjoyed the ones that have something to do with the movie, like the tribute to "Earl Holliman" for example in "Attack of The Eye Creatures".

Yes, I like the host segments right away as I was just a little kid and it had a bit of a kid show feel into even the Sci-Fi years, of course I watched a lot of the movie too but only really for the movie, I never found the riffing funny at the time.

I wasnt down with the host segs at first, but they eventually grew on me, some I still think are pretty.. , but a few are just randomly funny... like in Touch of Satan, when servos grandma or whatever was attacking mike, it was just so random that it was hilarious. In 513-the brain that wouldnt die mike mentions batavia (my hometown) and i instantly fell in love with the host segs. But yeah, it takes getting used to..when i show my friends mst3k, most mst3k-newbs, their just like "this is stupid, get back to the movie".

I started out with MST3K: The Movie, and with the exception of Dr F, not much of the host segments appealed. When I started watching episodes though, I almost always enjoyed them. Particularly with Joel episodes.

The first ep I saw was Red Zone Cuba. Initially, I didn't get some of the gags in the host segments, but I thought it was cute that the evil mad scientist Dr. Forrester got beaten up.

First ep I saw was "Godzilla vs Megalon," and the whole package won me over right away.
I've always loved the host segs. The characters in the theater are of course there to riff, but in the host segs they're allowed to go nuts as characters and do whatever. It really fleshed them out for me, and as a result I appreciated the seperate personalities in the theater more.
I had the same complaint about Scifi's host segs that many CC-era MSTies had, it took me a while to get used to the idea of a continuing storyline. Part of the beauty of the CC eps, to me at least, is that you could watch the 7 year's worth of eps in any order, and not really miss out on anything.
Of course, they did so well with what they were given that I can watch Scifi host segs with the same geeky glee as the rest.
I'd always hoped the irrational hope that they would make an episode that didn't even have an experiment, it'd just be some sort of adventure on the SOL. One long host segment. Ah well, there's always fanfic...

The first host segment I saw was the Meatloaf segment in the Deadly Mantis. I laughed until I cried, and I didn't even see the previous host segment that made the sketch make more sense.

I love the host segments, but that's only because I am MST3K humor incarnate. I mean I got them from day one. But when introducing the show to my friends, I'll skip the host segments because I know they wont get them. However I think once anyone really starts to watch the show they'll grow to love the host segments. I don't know what I'd do without them.

I started watching on Sci-Fi first, and I think that era has the best host segments. They are good because they are simple to understand. I don't like a lot of the Joel host segments because I don't know what they are talking about and I can't laugh at them. I like when the segments are related to the movie they are watching.
