I wonder if we're gonna get news about the next set soon or at the very least the Vol. 6 re-release.

Honestly, I'm starting to wonder about the next volume.
If anything, we'll probably get volume 6 first.

Shout re-releases The Essentials.
And the MSTie fan base implodes with anger.

A special edition of SCCCTM wouldn't be a bad idea to fill the time.

I would rebuy the Essentials if they included Shorts Vol. 3.
And then they can do a new set called Essential II and include I Accused my Parents, Eegah, and Red Zone Cuba. And then Essentials III with Hellcats, Bat Woman, and The Crawling Hand. I mean, I would consider some of those as essential episodes... Therefor taking care of the rest of the OOP Rhino single titles, as well as making the rest of the old Shout! Select titles available in retail editions (Shout! Factory has been taking several of their old Shout! Select titles out of print and reissuing them in new retail editions).

Is how I hear most complaints. That's pretty much what it was. The Essentials was probably one of the biggest sh*tstorms I've seen on this board. Granted it was perhaps snowballed frustration after Volume 5's Merlin transfer, but wow there was so much Rhino hate back then

I never really liked how Rhino treated the series, even if some members later on worked at Shout, so I can't really blame them. But even then, I would have just tossed away the Manos disc.

Weird that Shout! didn't go through Edgewood Films for Time Chasers.

Best to give the disc away and hopefully create a new MST fan? I hated the packaging on the early Rhino sets with a passion. Thought the discs would snap in two before I got them off those death grip plastic hubs. Later sets were better in that regard. I think Shout might simply want to give Season 11 the limelight for a few more weeks.

I'm guessing the next volume is ready, but were probably waiting for the new season to release and soak in with people, then hopefully get new fans to buy the new box set when they announce it. Doesn't look like they sell as well as they hope sometimes, considering they often do "limited to the first 1,500 copies bonus disc" and don't even sell out of those.

Essentials was my first MST3K purchase, and now 13 years later, I own every DVD. I also bought the single Rhino and the 2 disc Shout version of Manos (and a second copy of Essentials with the bonus disc). Clearly I'm not upset about buying it many times over.

I'm sure you are right that they don't want to compete with themselves for the time being. I could easily see there being just one more set this year and one or two next year while they finish reissuing the Rhino sets and begin issuing the revival episodes at retail. I assume they will consider their work finished on the classic series once they get everything up to Rhino Vol 12 out the door, so that gives them 2018 and 2019 to get rights sorted out for any remaining episodes. Those are just my thoughts on the long view of things, who knows what will happen? In terms of sales, if the bonus disc for a set isn't that appealing, it's hard to justify buying the sets direct from Shout Factory. I'm sure they move more copies over at Amazon, for example.

I think Shout's biggest reason for issuing bonus discs is to direct consumers to their own site rather than a discounted one at another vendor. Shout's prices are usually much higher than anywhere else, which is why they wouldn't sell out as fast, but they want people to buy through them so they get a higher chunk of the profits, so they promise limited gifts and early release exclusively through them.
MST is still one of their top sellers, otherwise they wouldn't have purchased the show outright and pushed hard to make more episodes to sell.
