What do you all the is the wose of the 2 christmas films shown on MST? Me, I'd have to go with Santa Claus , while SCCTM is plenty awful, Santa Claus was 10 times worse, between the racist potrayal of African kids and Santa's surveilience gear it just seemed wrong somehow.

Santa Claus because it's a really really bad movie.
SCCtM is just goofy and dumb.

Santa Claus because it's a really really bad movie. SCCtM is just goofy and dumb. I would say the exact opposite of that. Santa Claus, in my opinion, is really goofy and weird, but is not nearly as bad as SCCtM. The latter makes me cringe when I think about it because I really feel sorry for the people in it. Especially the Martians - something about the makeup obviously melting right off their faces just gets to me.

I find them both enjoyable in their own incredibly bad ways, but I think Santa Claus is slightly more offensive to the senses than SCCtM.

I can't choose. They're both nutty and dysfunctional as all get-out. Neither one really works effectively enough as a children's movie or as "legitimate" cinema. I suppose that, technically, one could almost pass off SCCTM as a half-decent kids' movie. If the kids were blind. And deaf.

They’re equally great films, both of which I happen to prefer watching in their non-MST3K forms.
The MST3K versions are good, but I first discovered the films in their non-MST3K form and that's how I came to know and love them.
As for the supposedly racist portrayal of the African kids in “Santa Claus” – I say that's B.S.
All the nationalities/ethnic groups were portrayed in stereotypical ways including the Americans, who were portrayed as cowboys.
No big deal IMO.

All the nationalities/ethnic groups were portrayed in stereotypical ways including the Americans, who were portrayed as cowboys. No big deal IMO. I felt the booing from M&tBs reflected that... What did Mexicans really know of Africa in '59? The reaction was appropriate for '90s Americans seeing black people represented in such a way - national stereotypes are accepted but racial ones are frowned upon. I'm sure the guys knew this. It's a matter of context. If a white Briton did the 'Ravi Shankar P.I.' gag from Codename: Diamond Head on UK TV there'd be a backlash from the South Asian community. It's OK for M&tBs to do that riff (as US comedians) since impersonating the Indian accent is a matter more of nationality in the USA, not a matter of race as it would be perceived in the UK. I kind of went 'Ooooooh... You can't say that!' as my first reaction to the Indian riff, M&tBs reaction is just expressing the same kind of reaction from a contemporary US point of view. SC wasn't insulting black people/Africans with that appearance, it was not racist. It's a matter of context. But someone could use that representation in an insulting, racist manner. MST3K wasn't insulting Indians either, but in a different context it could be seen as inappropriate. Is my point clear? I can't tell... *serious mode off.... for now*

My favorite part is that no one seems to notice that Dropo or however you spell it has this very large antenna protruding from under the santa hat... and how whacky he is acting.

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians was worse in my opinion. Heck, the first time I heard the title just made me knew how terrible the movie was.

SCCtM is worse in my opinion for one reason: the scene where the kids are using toys to attack the baddie Martians and Santa just laughs and laughs. That's the scene that makes me cringe the most.
If not for that scene, then Santa Claus would be the worse movie.

I agree. At least SCCTM stayed nice, light, and flaky,(like a crossant) while Santa Claus had sort of a scum over all of the cellulite (like a McDonalds, deep fat fryer grease trap). In SCCTM we have Dropo, in Santa Claus, whe have the Devil, etc...

Actually, I saw (and bought) a "Chidren's Classics" DVD of SCCTM from my local Walgreens. It had SCCTM plus two old 50's Christmas cartoons and a Red Skelton christmas episode. Actually, It is quite painful to get through, though.

SCCTM at least keeps the "Classic Santa" intact. Santa Claus just bewilders me.

SCCTM is really kinda sweet. I mean, sweet in that nearly nauseating sort of sense (santa's laughing drives me bonkers)...yet, I dunno, it's got a way better feel to it than the movie Santa Claus. Dont get me wrong, I love both of these christmas msts - I've watched both multiple times and enjoyed them thoroughly. But if the question is "which movie is more creepy" then Santa Claus wins easily.
I've watched scctm un-msted, and it's really not that bad for an old type of kids B movie thing. Saturday morning entertainment level, really.
