i think i enjoy santa claus more, only because i haven't watched it as much as SCCTM. it's still reasonably "new" to me. as far as santa claus's go, the one in SCCTM is more believable - irritating, but believable. the one in SC is just creepy! the way he watches those kids (shudder)! and then there's the 103 year old wizard he kept for emergencies, the bizarre moving lips on the wall that made me uncomfortable to look at, the kids basically running the show - where was mrs. claus? and that devil...whew. although, i have to say i prefer him to droppo - that guy made me nervous. in SCCTM, the martians were just too cheesey, the kids were irritating and that scene where the kids attack with toys was just embarrassing. but the riffing was hilarious - after all, they had so much to work with! and it has one of my all time favorite riffs in it ever: santa: "Pills for dinner?" crow: "who are we, judy garland?"
the riffing was great in SC, too. and after all, it was a time for us to give thanks to craig, right?

SCCTM is actually the reason I got into MST3K, so I have to give it some credit. I got a copy for free, and I watched it (unMST3Ked, that is) I then heard about a show which featured bad movies being mocked, including SCCTM, so I watched the episode on youtube, immediately loved it, and the rest is history.

I think 'Santa Claus' is the more 'disfunctional'movie. Trying to bend someone else's cultural icon around your own culture makes for a lot of disconance and ambiguity. I find 'Santa Claus' hard to watch for this reason. The parts of it just don't fit properly. Remember in Hispanic cultures it's the Three Wise Men that bring the presents during Epiphany, not a jolly old elf on Christmas Eve. If you think about it it makes a hell of a lot more sense! So SCCTM may have a goofier story line, but it stays true to it's North American roots and doesn't seem strained. Well, none of that made a bit of sense did it?

"Is this creepy enough for you? How does this make you feel about Santa?"
I would go for Santa Claus being the worst movie.

I'm with the majority on this. Viewed on their own terms, SC is definitely the more destructive movie to the Santa myth and weird psychologically too, right?
The whole notion of Pitch sitting by your side, directing you exactly to what to steal, etc. is so completely 3rd World Catholic. "Now you won't have any dollies!"
The anus-mouth thingy has to give you chills. But I love the episode and have shared it several times to introduce new folks to MST3K, and it's effective -- maybe because newbies sit in silent awe at the incredible strangeness of this little movie.
You know, if they already know the movie, for some newbies the riffing is an irritant that's hard to adjust to. But SC is just so damn odd, you're drawn to it like the scene of a train wreck.
