C'mon, Atari! Now you're really stretching the concept. You're putting these episodes together simply because they have a number in their titles? It's not even the same number! You must really be out of ideas.
And so on.
Actually, no. I'm not out of ideas. But yes, this is a stretch. Too bad.
You see, it's a special Friday today. Today is something we will only experience a handful of times in our lives. Leap Day. Huzzah! So to celebrate, here are two movies with leap years in their titles. Movies featured on a show with a leap year in its title. The symmetry is staggering.
I remember Leap Day 1996. I was in Nashville for some recording sessions. Flipping channels at the hotel that night, I noticed the Sci-Fi channel was running a "Quantum Leap Year Marathon". I didn't sleep a wink. I went into the studio the next morning feeling disoriented and with one of those all-nighter headaches. Best drumming I ever did. In the pocket and funky.
So, vote already! Do you like your leap days with mullets in the Bronx, or from the future wearing spangly jumpsuits?

Both are very solid episodes coming from great seasons, and neither stands out too much too me.
Therefore, I am voting for Terror From the Year 5000 solely based on Mike's reply to the "Anti-radiation suits" line ("...because we have those now..."). Something about his voice just makes me laugh for a solid minute or two every time I hear the line.
Edit: Wait, is 5000 a leap year?!

I don't think Victor & Angelo get nearly enough press for their oiliness & their creepiness, so I voted Terror. Victor is one of MST's oiliest fellows.

No contest whatsoever for me.
yes, yes, I know I have anti-science-ranted Terror ... but I love to hate it. Great riffing, including my all-time favorite one: "My Johnson's getting old. And the boat motor won't start either." (Maybe you have to be my age and female for that to be your favorite riff...? hmm, it's a thought.) Amusing nurse riffs. And I simply thrill at Beez's appearance as the Terror. I bet the date with Crow was fun, too.
On the other hand, Escape from the Bronx...a big yawnfest. Not that I could rouse myself to care a lot, but I found the heroes so revolting, I was rooting for the bad guys. And only fair riffing--the weakest ep of a terrific season, imo.

Edit: Wait, is 5000 a leap year?! from Wikipedia: "Years which are evenly divisible by 100 are not leap years, unless they are also evenly divisible by 400, in which case they are leap years" I think whoever wrote that wrote my income tax instructions.

I voted for Escape 2000 because the whole Toblerone thing cracks me up.

That's what I looked at, and unless I misunderstood, 5000 is not a leap year. Thus, a one-sided poll.

I always thought it was every 4 years, like Presidential Elections and Olympic Games...
Escape 2000, for the Nosferatu chick.

However, a weird man in a sparkly leotard came out of my water heater this morning, saying he was from the future and that they've changed the rules by then. Just like President Bush changed daylight savings time. At least,I hope he was from the future.

Tough choice here...
I like Escape 2000, it's a great episode in a short, but sweet season. Also Mike's line: "Is that true, do you suck?" make me laugh like a maniac everytime.
But I'm afraid I'm going to go with Terror from the Year 5000. I'm not a big fan of most of the episodes from the beginning of Season 8, but I have to say this one shines in ways I can't even describe. The movie is definately bad, but in such a bad way that it's incredibly laughable (just like Robot Monster before it), providing almost half the fun. But when you throw in M&tB with top-notch riffing you get even more fun. Even the host segments are a step up compared to others in the Sci-fi era. "When I held your brains in my arms" is one of my favorite MST3K songs ever. Even Pearl gets a good laugh in the ending segment. It's very clever and I never even saw that coming.
If you haven't seen this one, do so as soon as you can. You won't regret it.

Terror From The Year 5000 is one of my favorite episodes. Escape 2000 is okay, but is weak compared to most of season 7.

Hey Mr. A - I didn't know you recorded in nashville, very cool.
But I need to wimp out and wish for a tie option. For the first time I simply can't chose as they are identical in the laugher and joy factor.
