Just watched last night's How I Met Your Mother (the one with Britney) and in it Ted declares to that blonde bird from Scrubs that he's just watched the worst movie ever. She asks, naively, "Plan 9 From Outer Space?" to which he replies "Manos: The Hands Of Fate". She doesn't believe him but later on shows her the movie in twenty seconds, with ghastly non-mystied footage to boot.
Manos hits the mainstream! Is Dr. Forrester in fact pulling the strings behind the scenes of this bubbly, light little sitcom?

I feel pretty confident in saying that if it wasn’t for MST no one other than the most hardcore bad movie fans would know about that little film. Now it’s a part of our pop culture.

I was channel surfing and ran into this last night. A couple on a date, apparently, standing in front of a small Hi-Def TV shop, watching friggin' Manos! I couldn't tell if they could hear the audio out on the sidewalk, or if the scene was suposed to be a time-elapsed sequence of them watching the whole movie. Even though the video was on a small portion of my crap TV, it looked very sharp. Was there a new release? Too bad they didn't use the MST version.

He takes the bird from Scrubs on a two minute date so they watch selected highlights (highlights?) of Manos through the window as a call back to the earlier conversation.

I believe Neil Patrick Harris is on that show. If I recall correctly, he was a huge fan of MST3K. Maybe he had something to do with it.

Either of these clips on youtube? You can watch the full episode on cbs.com. The part where they actually watch the bits of Manos is about 18:30 into the show. Love the use of "Thirteen" during their date, too.

Is Dr. Forrester in fact pulling the strings behind the scenes of this bubbly, light little sitcom? It could be; it is quite an evil sitcom. I'm sure it's nice that Manos can get that kind of recognition that affirms the MST3K community. Maybe there is a MySTie in the writing staff. But still, c'mon, it's a sitcom, and a bad one at that. That's the same as Mark Hamill guest starring on a sitcom to appeal to the Star Wars fans; it still doesn't make the sitcom Star Wars. Plus, if Britney Spears was in the episode, I would say they've thrown class out the window.

Never said Manos being in it made it MST3K (although i don't mind the show it must be said). It just shows as MonsterX said that Manos is now a part of popular culture the way Plan 9 is and that the only reason for it is through MST3K.

That is true. Hal Warren has dethroned Ed Wood as the King of Camp.

Britney as guest = more souls now lost to The Hands of Fate...or was it The Hand of Fate?

I thought he was the king of CRAP. (In more ways than one, infact.)

Bizarre seeing it featured on a CBS sitcom and one that ended up getting big ratings that night. I was impressed by the quality of the print they used.

A huge ratings increase was reported. I'm sure it was because of Manos, and not Ms.ForgotMyNickersAgain's guest spot.

If I would have known about the Manos scene, I would have watched, but I was unwilling to watch anything with Britney in it. I refuse to support her as long as the media continues to give her bad press, which has pretty much been since her career's inception in late 1998. I blame it on the schoolgirl uniforms.
