It's a big day in sampo-land.
I'm not a rabid U2 fan, but I enjoy a few of their albums. For some inexplicable reason, however, I've been anticipating their new release for about 6 months now- long before the overplayed iPod commercial came out. (You know, the one where Bono counts off the song, "One, Two, Three, Fourteen!" The hell?)
I resisted the piracy and avoided the downloads for the last month. So today over lunch, I stopped by the local Stuff*Mart and picked up the official release for $8.88.
I'm on my third consecutive listen and I'm deliriously happy. I know it's tough for you all to imagine your somber sampo as excited as a schoolgirl. But I am.
Any other opinions on the new U2 album?

I'm looking forward to buying it soon myself. I haven't heard anything other than that one song that's playing daily now, but when I was at lunch I heard Dan Patrick say that he was disappointed in it. He's a musical expert, ya know!

but when I was at lunch I heard Dan Patrick say that he was disappointed in it. He's a musical expert, ya know! My first listen was a bit disappointing. After hearing "Vertigo" over and over for the last month, I was expecting more of a post-punk, riff-based vibe (a la Foo Fighters). But that's the only song like that on the album. After that, it's more of a standard U2 feel. By my second and third listens, I got past my expectations and began to enjoy it for what it is. And it is very, very good.

Have heard good things about the album. Looking forward to giving it a listen sometime.
Obscure Trivia: Bono's friend, Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher, came up with the title for the song "One Step Closer." That song is based on a conversation the two men had about religion. Bono's dad was dying of cancer and Bono said the old man had lost his faith. Noel replied, "Well, he's one step closer to knowing."

I'm a U2 fan so I need to get it. They were great on SNL.
