I went 3 or maybe 4 years without a cold and now I've had 2 small ones this year and feel a throat thing coming on today. I left work early to rest up. I'm trying a new drink I came up with. Hot Brandiied Tea. A while back I had some Brandy and it occurred to me it was the same color as tea so I made a blend, heated it up and it was quite good. Now I'm trying it for a throat virus. What have you got?

If you are having throat problems, try drinking some 7-Up with some ice. It usually helps.

My cure is quit whining for sympathy and drink heavily.
Hell, with a horrible hangover, who can focus on a cold?

If you're stupid enough to still get a cold in this day and age, what with all the immune sytem boosters and secret vitamins only known to a select few, here's what you do. Get an antibiotic, preferably one you're not allergic to, then get pseudoephedrine (PSE), unless you have high blood pressure, then you're stuck with the cold because PSE constricts your already constricted blood vessels, so tough luck! Then you'll need a cough suppresant, dextromethorphan (DM) will do the trick. If you're coughing up mucous, you can take an expectorant which loosens up the mucous and makes it easier to get rid of it, or you can be like me and swallow the sweet yellow softie for a warm afternoon treat. Then you'll need a pain killer for the flu pain and inflammation, preferably an acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Next check to see if everything is OK to take with your other meds, such as your crazy pills, your high blood pressure pills, your cholesterol pills, your allergy pills, your erectile dysfuntion pills, your estrogen pills, your cancer pills, your birth control pills, your ointments, creams, and lotions, your diabetes pills, your gout pills, and anything you crazy addicted saps think really work even though they don't. Oops, I'm sorry, they really do work. Never mind me. Here's some more ACE inhibitors and beta blockers and calcium channel blockers, you Medicaid bastard.

I wouldn't trust you to recommend heat or cold to someone with a sprained ankle.

So did any of my advice help you out with your cold? Did I strike a cord? Do you take any of the types of medications? Are you ashamed because I know your dirty little secret?

As someone married to a doctor who also studies public health, I just want you to know that your suggestion that someone with a cold take antibiotics is downright criminal, and you should be hunted and killed for your scalp. Never, and I repeat, NEVER take antibiotics unless you are in imminent danger of death. Otherwise, you're screwing with everyone else's health. Anyway, about colds: I'm strange b/c I actually like the fever part. I just feel smarter then. But drainage kills me.

No. Gees, I'm just venting.
