Wow, am I the only one who's a big enough Star Wars nerd on this board to actually like the rest of the DVD? Yes.

Actually, when it comes to making fun of nerds, I was referring more to the fact that the "documentary" DVD got made at all, not really the commentary that was put on top of it later. Same as with the movie "Trekkies", which I haven't yet seen--they're both in the same vein.
Although: "Galaxy Quest" is very much making fun of both the show and its fans, and I LOVE that movie. One of my favourites. So funny. So I do have _some_ sense of humour about the whole thing. I quote from Galaxy Quest all the time. "I know that sound...that's a bad sound!" "WHY are there spinny choppy things in the middle of the hallway, it makes no SENSE?!" And whenever a male character's shirt just "happens" to get ripped/torn off during a fight, in any show or movie: "I see you managed to get your shirt off." For just a few examples.
I always assume that the Brains are at least _slightly_ "my kind", actually, my family and I are always joking that "they seem just like the kind of people WE hang out with all the time, anyway!" and that if our "gang" cobbled a low-budget comedy show together, it would have pretty much the same overall sense of humour.
Thing is, I KNOW I'm a nerd. In several different ways at once. The key is to be _proud_ of your differences from the "norm". ("I embrace that about myself, and my colleagues respect me for it!") I'm a Trekkie, I _was_ a huge Star Wars fan back with the original movies, when I was a little kid, I'm an otaku, a D&D/role-player in general, a video gamer, a 'net nerd who has several of her own websites, I like Monty Python and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, AND I have out-of-fashion tastes in music and clothing. (I'm a bit of a "closet" geek, though--nobody ever pegs me that way when they first meet me.)
After having been around people who mocked all the different kinds of geek I am, all my life...I KNOW the difference between the gentle, understanding kind of joking and the mean kind. So the commentary on the Star Wait DVD/the DVD itself, is very unlikely to offend me in any way. I mean, I was once approached by a Denver-area TV reporter, while at a science-fiction convention, who wanted to interview me for the local news--but _only_ if I played into his preconcieved idea of how Trekkies act--that I think I AM my character and am totally disconnected from reality. When I said, "No, of _course_ I don't think I am my character, it's just a costume for fun!" he immediately lost interest... (Yes, this is a true story. He had a guy behind him with a video camera and everything--it was quite amusing.)
So trust me. I can TELL mean mocking vs. kind mocking when I see it. I've been there.
And I still want to see this DVD, if I can find it. :)

I finally picked up the Star Wait DVD and I'm quite happy with the brief commentary done by the original three. I got the impression that it felt like they were holding back(especially Trace) as the director was there with them but they did a great job overall, much better than anyone else on the commentary that I've heard so far. I really hope they do more stuff like this in the near future, but do more than just 20 minutes worth of commentary and make sure the director isn't there with them.
The documentary itself was ok although it dragged on. It was kind of funny to see the tensions rise at parts though.

It shouldn't really take too much to get Joel, Josh, and Trace together as Josh and Trace already work together on AFV. I agree with Shaggy and hope the three work together again soon.

Oh, yeah, so do I. Then again I'm "Oldschool Chick", so it's not really all that surprising, that _I_ would say that. :P

Hey, if Mike, Kevin, and Bill can do it, so can Joel, Josh, and Trace, right?
