Wow. Sounds like quite the DVD. I wish they all came with as many/as rare of extra features as that! That's going onto my list of "As soon as I finally have some money", lemme tell ya. :)

DVD Features: Includes All-New Color Version and Original Black and White Version
I thought I'd emphasize this part of your post, Mr. Sandrew, so you don't get inundated with posts from whiney purists. I hope you sell a lot. This is a great idea and a nice franchise you've started.

Just as long as the Original Black and White Version has Mike's commentary I'll be happy.
And I never whine, I articulate.

Actually, I'm a bit of a purist myself...but I saw that part of the description from the get-go which is why I didn't say anything. But in general, when it comes to altering the appearance of old movies, even _bad_ ones....I'll take some "digital remastering" ONLY, to go, please. Hold the colorising, re-done special effects, gratuitous CGI, etc. Thank you.
...wait, some of that was actually more of a rant against George Lucas and the "special edition" versions of the original Star Wars trilogy. But never mind. It all goes together. Clean it up and preserve the original, but don't _change_ anything. That's all I want. Yeah.

So I guess according to Mr Atari you're a "whiney purist." Welcome to the club.

Well, I'm already known (on other boards) as being "whiny" (actually, the word more often used is "obnoxious") about tons of _other_ topics, so...what's one more? Thanks for inviting me into the club, looks like a nice place. (wanders over to the refreshment table)
EDIT: Actually, I don't really care if modified versions of something are made available, just so long as the original version is _still_ out there as well. It's when the new one just completely wipes out the old one as if it never existed in the universe, that I have an objection. But things like this--with the colourised version _and_ the original both included on the same DVD--I'm fine with.

I agree, though. If a movie was made in B&W, that's how I want to see it. If it was made without some weird CGI mutant singing in Jabba's palace, that's how I want to see it.

I'm PO'd because it's the ONLY version he's releasing; he's trying to pretend that the original version never happened. And lots of confused little teenyboppers are gonna grow up thinking that 1970's sci-fi special effects look _amazingly like_ late '90s/early '00s special effects. Wow, who woulda thought it... It's cowardly, revisionist, and attempting to _erase_ a famous chunk of moviemaking history. Anybody out there who still has playable copies of the ORIGINAL versions of the first Star Wars trilogy (4, 5, and 6) on VHS and the ability to transfer it over to DVD...I urge you to do so. Or else, when the last tape gets too fuzzy to watch any more and the last VCR breaks down when shops are no longer selling them at all...that'll be it.
But I'm getting way off the subject. I meant that only as an _example_ of what annoys me about people re-doing old movies; I didn't intend to rant on and on about it. I apologise. To bring this halfway back to the actual topic (of this board, anyway)...sure, the Brains are embarrassed about the KTMA episodes. But have they gone out of their way to deliberately erase all trace of them from the public consciousness? No. I'm sure they _know_ that there's a fairly lively trade in them among the fans...and that telling people "You don't want to see these, really, we're embarrassed about them" will make certain types of people _more_ curious. (I wonder how much publicity those comments in the ACEG actually made, for that season... I'll bet many people, like me, had never even _heard_ of a "Season Zero" before picking up the book, for one thing!) Telling people "Whatever you do, DON'T LOOK AT THIS!" actually draws attention to it. So they _can't_ be too surprised at how many people now know those episodes. It's human nature...
Anyway, _this_ DVD, Plan 9, seems like it will be okay. As long as the original thing is still out there for people to see if they want, then all's well. If you want to _choose_ colour or singing CGI monsters, then go ahead. As long as us "purists" and "oldbies" can see the version _we_ used to know, too.

I liked Mike Nelson's commentary with NOTLD and HOHH. It should be fun to watch this old movie with the jokes behind it. Just as long as Rhino isn't making it. :D

There are so many of these new things the Brains are making that I _want_, but can't afford at the moment! I've gotta get a better job...
As for the Star Wars DVD's...no, I don't have them either. I'm holding on to my old VHS copies of the original editions, thank you very much. Until they break down...
Anyway.
