Bill Goldberg, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall were definite exceptions to the nickname rule. Man, those guys won nearly 100% of the time, which made it almost pointless watching their matches. I remember one time Nash singlehandedly won a battle royal against Raven's Flock (and half of those guys had nicknames) in only a minute or so, which sucked. About the only matches I remember liking from Goldberg, Nash & Hall during their WCW days were Saturn vs. Goldberg and Nash vs. Wrath.

The Outsiders? Yeah, Nash & Hall had stroke backstage, and played politics. They kept themselves from doing the job. But THANK YOU for proving a point I've always had. Fans were going to get sick and bored of Goldberg if he kept on winning every match in under five minutes. But that's another story for another time. Goldberg's name worked because of the simplicity. He sounds like your accountant but he was just a machine type wrestler. He didn't talk I think for the first year of his career. If he had been The Assasin Killer GB Man, that would have been over complicated. He was simply Goldberg and won his matches in under five minutes. Now I'll wait for the ridicule of Phantom and GodoHell.

Yeah, I hear ya. His no-nonsense, machine-type character actually worked pretty well. At least he wasn't given the baby-face persona so typical of former football players.

Barry Horowitz, actually got a push from losing. In Florida he was Jack Hart on a losing streak of I think 150, he got Percy Pringel (Paul Bearer) as his manager. He turned things around, and Jack Hart won the Florida heavyweight title.
