Very funny review from Mr. Nelson.
Dr. Hunter, with the exception of the unintentionally hilarious flaming monkeys, Congo is pretty bad. Still, it has a certain "Independance Day" quality about it. You know, one of those movies that you know is poop!e but you still watch it up til the end if you stumble upon it while flipping channels.
Also, I enjoy 'Pressure' by Billy Joel.... great song.

I was also quite pleased and amused by Mike's review of this stinker. I remember being incredibly excited when Congo first came out (I think I was 14), because it was a Michael Crichton movie, and I had loved Jurassic Park. I left the theater thinking Congo was quite possibly the dumbest movie I'd ever seen, and it would be perfect for MST3K. In fact, this was the first blockbuster film I ever saw that I thought would be perfect fodder for the show. So thanks, Mr. Nelson, for tearing it apart.

I really hope he writes another movie reviews book sometime in the not too distant future. Megacheese was brilliant.

I personally liked Mind Over Matters better . . . but Megacheese 2 would be nice if that's what he chooses to do. Hollywood just keeps churning out the crap, after all, so he's got plenty to write on.

The Iron Chef one is hilarious. "SQUEEZE-ON?" I like the show, but there's no doubt it's bizarre and Mike rips on it better than anyone else could.

Who in their right mind would put these people together??
I learned about the Belgians in the Congo from the Midnight Oil song "Short Memory." Apparently, they didn't treat the natives too well.
that's putting it mildly.

I'm a bit surprised that MST3K writers haven't attempted to put out books featuring essays specifically on bad movies, a la what the Medved brothers did in the 1970s. Nelson's Megacheese movie had some material on it, but a whole book on the subject would have a lot of appeal.
My dad said after watching Congo that he wished that the monkeys had eaten all the actors. A lost opportunity.
