Those who keep track of the Info Club's news have heard this by now.
Thoughts? Having never seen the stage version of Starship Dave, I've got no idea if Murphy's right for his part.
And I'm not too familiar with the director, either.

I have neither seen nor heard nor nuthin' about this, except what was said in the Info Club's news item. The idea of the story starting off with a huge fireball/explosion in Central Park seems a little iffy, to me. Fireballs of that sort don't say "fun setup for a comedy" like they used to, I guess. But then I'm bored of films with explosions any more. And Eddie Murphy? Geez, could his has be any more been? IMO, YMMV, etc.

I thought the original premise was that the guy wasn't the captain, but the ship itself and he's carrying the people within him (sounds like an old Outer Limits episode). As for Eddie I wont judge till I see it. If the script and direction is good he'll be fine.
Hope it's good, makes money and Bill has all the success he deserves.

Kinda makes me recall the parts of the first MIB film where the Bug first comes to Earth, now that I think about it. The thing is, comedy sci-fi films haven't been done too frequently. You've got MIB, Hitchhikers, the odd-Disney sci-fi flick...and what? Ghostbusters? That was more comic horror than comic sci-fi. Mars Attacks? That's more of a spoof than an attempt at serious science fiction. Back To The Future? That's more of an action/sci-fi film with heavy, heavy comic relief. I think the genre's right for a fireball, but as it's still a relatively new genre that's hard to tell.

Hmm. Thats interesting. Hopefully (but doubtfully) Eddie Murphy won't just play Eddie Murphy in this movie like he has in every other movie he's been in.

Peter Segal directed Tommy Boy, The Longest Yard, Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult, and several others. I'm saying he's Speilburg, but this is a pretty big director to get.
This movie has potential Segal directed one of my favorite movies (Tommy Boy) and Corbett of course wrote and acted in one of my favorite TV shows.

...why am I getting this image of the movie ending with him standing on top of an observatory, shaking his fist at the heavens and yelling "I'M GONNA GET YOU SUCKA!!"
...
Anyway. It rather reminds me of what if the movie made in "Bowfinger" was actually real. I'm gonna go into the "I'll wait and see before I judge" camp on this one. I mean, it _could_ be funny...

It could be very funny, but I don't expect critical praise. It will almost certainly be dismissed as Pluto Nash 2. Now, that may not mean it does poorly in the box office, or on the DVD market.
I think the MiSTie community should rally behind it and get as many butts in the opening weekend seats as we can.

Personally, I think this would have worked much better as a British film with someone like Steve Coughan ("I'm Alan Partridge") or Jack Davenport ("This Life," "Coupling") as the Captain/Starship Dave.
Dave (as a spaceship) should be a stiff, awkward character, and nobody does stiff, awkward romantic comedies like the Brits. LOL

Wow, I didn't realize this project was actually happening. But man, Eddie Murphy? Peter Segal? With Corbett involved I'll keep an eye out, but I've got to say I'm not very enthused about this. There's also no assurance that the draft that they film will be anything like was originally penned.

I've never heard of this project at all. Pluto Nash was a total disaster and every copy of it should be burned.
