Is there any way to take the "50ft Woman" option off, so that nobody else can vote on it? Why? Just because Warner owns it doesn't mean another company couldn't lease it to release on DVD.... Criterion doesn't own any of the movies they release. Besides, it's not like this is an official poll or anything. But speaking of 50ft Woman - it's owned by Warners....which owns Rhino....which releases movies like They Saved Hitler's Brain....you'd think 50ft Woman would be a natural for them. Does that entire company have it's head up it's butt?

A couple other people mentioned it, but Bride of the Gorilla would be perfect. In addition to being public domain and a cult classic, it has a little bit of star power by means of Raymond Burr in the lead role and our old friend Lon Chaney Jr. horribly miscast as a native police official. The movie by itself is a blast and I imagine that with commentary it would be hilarious.

Because it's easier for Legend Films to restore and colorize films if they don't already own the rights to them - this thread has Barry Sandrew of Legend Films quoted as saying that if Freaks were in the public domain, he would love to restore and colorize the film, but "unfortunately, it's not." Besides, even if Legend WERE able to get these films leased to them, Warners wouldn't lease them out anyway. I'll just quote the original post for Legend Films' basic qualifications for their cult series: They can't be obscure films but should be high profile evergreens like Reefer Madness, Night of the Living Dead, Carnival of Souls, Stooges and Plan 9. All are very recognizable, already significant retail sellers and most importantly, public domain or in the hands of a copyright owner eager to colorize for distribution in this format. Since Time/Warner is too afraid to go near colorization (because of the whole Ted Turner affair several years back), I'd doubt that they'd have any interest in letting Legend colorize any titles they own.

" " " That, and Warner plans to release it to DVD themselves.
Warner is great about releasing "cult" titles, they even put out NIGHT OF THE LEPUS! Which is more than can be said for Sony, Universal and Fox generally.

Which is more than can be said for Sony, Universal and Fox generally. I think Fox's special editions of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" speak for themselves. The original 2-disc of RHPS is better than any Warner release I've seen, cult or otherwise.
