HE DISSED RUSHMORE.
It's over, Mr. Nelson. The love affair is over.

That's a great article. I strongly agree about Being John Malkovich and Annie Hall. I really like Strangelove and Rushmore a lot, but he makes a good point.
Now I have to decide if it's worth it to still pick up the issue.

Incidentally, my last post was mostly a joke. I do love Rushmore, but the article is pretty good. I especially liked his comments on Steve Guttenberg, and I too think Annie Hall is overrated.

I watched Strangelove last year, and I'll agree with Mr. Nelson that it is a remarkably boring movie. The others I have no opinion on as I haven't seen them.

Seeing Dr. Strangelove on that list made me cringe, since it's one of my favorite movies of all time, but MST3K has gotten me used to seeing things I love picked on.

Actually, I'm kind of glad to find someone else right off that didn't love Rushmore. I have friends that think I'm nuts, but I prefer Bottle Rocket as far as Wes Anderson films go. Dr. Strangelove is a classic, but I too have trouble really calling it a comedy. It's funny in a scary kind of way.
As for the others, I haven't seen them. Looks like I need to broaden my horizons. And buy Cracked.

Father Mannix has put it perfectly. Dr. Strangelove is a classic, but I too have trouble really calling it a comedy. It's funny in a scary kind of way. And so has ModCityGun.

"Strangelove" is great, and I think Barry Levinson's screenplay for "Diner" is fantastic, too. Levinson had a remarkable ear for dialogue and the place/peorid. Strange, but I've never thought of "Diner" as comedy (though there are some funny moments), but rather a drama about growing up.
No offense to Mike, but personally I prefered Forrest's recent Cracked pieces to this one.

I thought it was okay. Nothing spectacular. I've read funnier on this board.

Yeah, come to think of it, Mike's article wasn't all that funny. It made some good points about the films in question, though. The only movie of those I really enjoyed was Being John Malkovich, and I don't know if I like it that much anymore. I never feel like watching it. I wonder if this article was inspired by Kevin Murphy, since he seems to fit the category of "comedy snob", or at least "movie snob". Maybe Mike is reacting to Kevin extolling the virtues of these movies during the years they worked together. Just speculation, of course.
I have had much experience with the Rushmore snob, and it's good to see it put in its place. I liked the first hour of Rushmore, then the second hour just got really aimless and strange. Perhaps it's more style than substance, more attitude than actual humor.

I really love Dr. Strangelove, and I just saw Annie Hall like a month ago and thought it was pretty darn good, though I suppose I can understand Mike's complaints about the 70s-ish-ness and the creepy incesteous-old Woody Allen becoming an offscreen character.
Never seen Rushmore, but I did see Mr. Anderson's Life Aquatic, and, though I was very apathetic about it at first, after seeing it again (a family member loves the film) my opinion of it has improved and improved. The soundtrack helps.

I got The Tope 5 Most Retarded Conspiracy Theories, Godzilla's Phone Messages and Horror Movie Sequels We Don't Need to See among others which might go up. LOL Awesome! Those sound great! Keep up the good work, Forrest.

Strangelove was hilarious - I didn't like the article in the least.
