Well sure enough, I contacted them and they said that I would have to wait for them to get more in stock. Oh no I don't, cancelled! Well wonderful, I was really hoping that they would pull through for me. Seems kind of crappy to put something up for sale on the Amazon Marketplace and not have it. Thanks for the help everyone.
I am heading out of town tomorrow, I will try to hit up all the stores there and see if I can track one down. If I don't find one, who knows what I am going to do.

Haha I got most all the boxsets the day they come out: Cartoon TV's Frank! your Rhino MST3K collection is perfect, I keep looking at the image you pusted and telling myself "someday they will be mine.... oh yes, they will be mine" Soon you can just push "Ren and Stimpy" to another shelf for Vol. 11 and Essentials to fill things out Neil

I suppose that most stores simply assume that they'll be getting a new stock in. The nature of the Rhino pulls is that they're sudden, with little warning - the rights sometimes will just collapse, like with 10 and, probably, 9. There's not always time to announce the discontinuations to the retailers well in advance. So, when they tell you guys that they expect to have more in stock, it's probably Rhino's fault for not contacting all their customers with the information. The retailers, in some cases, have little choice but to disappoint. I would assume, at least.

For what it's worth, I have a copy on order at my local Borders and they give me weekly updates. The latest I got, and it's kind of convoluted, is my order hasn't been canceled (meaning it's not out of print according to this Border's employee) but the distributer doesn't know when they are going to get more in.
Take that as you will.

Take that as you will. Hopefully Borders will come through for you, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Why? Because this past Friday I made the mad dash for the Borders near me, also in search of the elusive Volume 9. They didn't have it (naturally), but I asked the guy at the help counter to see if the set was located at any other area Borders. He said that there was a single copy each at two nearby locations, so off I went... I got to the next store, only to discover that the set wasn't there! Their answer-person looked it up as well, and she told me that the third nearby store should have it - and she called up the other store to make sure and reserve it for me, but only after I noticed something interesting in their database that she showed me: I saw the entries listed for all of the MST boxed sets, and Vol. 9 had a big "X" next to it. She didn't know what the "X" pertained to, but I assume it's the "recall" mark. Evidently Borders has three suppliers, and all three showed up the same way. My advice is to ask them to check as many stores as they can, because if they don't have it now then it's dubious at best that they'll get more from any suppliers. I got very lucky and possibly got the last Borders copy available in the Chicago western suburbs - good look with your search! AF

Wow, it is a good thing I check out these forums every once in a while. Yesterday, I checked out the Borders website and saw that one of the two stores in my area had Vol 9 available. I went to that store and found it! Now today that store indicates it doesn't have any Vol 9 sets available. Whew! I wouldn't know where else to look aside from Borders or Amazon (maybe a local video store I know of).
My friends and I have just discovered this show a few months back and it is now our primary movie-watching entertainment. They just aren't coming out with movies in the theater that offer the same amount of belly laughs. Oh, and we can heckle the movie too without getting shushed.
"And then we would go... HI-KEEBAH!" **thunk** I think I died, went to heaven, but then got sent back to Earth for laughing so hard at something so stupid.
So anyway... back on topic... thanks for keeping tabs on this kind of stuff for me.

This makes me sick. I've recently purchased vols. 1,3 and 10 because they were either OOP or going that way. Now I just can't afford to get 9 for a while... and it's already going to be off store shelves and websites by then.

And the person I ordered from off eBay who supposedly had 6 in stock at retail price has stiffed me as well. Oh well. Such is life.

Now I just can't afford to get 9 for a while... and it's already going to be off store shelves and websites by then. I did the same thing, and I haven't had a single chance to get to a retailer that might carry Vol. 9, living out in the sticks as I do. I got lucky and found Vol. 10 at a brick-and-mortar place over an hour from home when it started disappearing from sight last year. And on top of it, I scrambled to get Vol. 1 a bit before that, and sure enough, it's apparently coming back into print. Hopefully, I'll get lucky again and find one at an out-of-the-way spot.

I found Vol. 9 and 10 in the same mall 2 hours away from I live long after they were all sold out online. I love that place so much.

Crap. No place has it online anymore. What sucks is once these secondary market sellers like on e-bay and amazon.com find out it's OOP, they buy 'em all up and jack up the prices. I may never get this. Glad I have Vol 10 though. I see now that the lowest price at Amazon for it new or used is over $100.

I need a copy of this as well. I will pay fair prices.
This is very bad. I'm OCD, and normally it doesn't affect me, but in cases like this, I'll literally be paranoid until I obtain the product...

Y'know, I don't know about where you all live, but my public library has at least one copy of each of the Rhino sets. At least you can watch 'em eve if you have to give them back.

Maybe it'll come back like vol. 1 did. Thank God I already have it.

I checked my local Best Buy yesterday, and not only did they not have Vol. 9, they didn't have a single MST3K collection on the shelf. That's the first time I've ever seen that.
