I don't want double dipping, but I really really hope they release these as seasons. Doubtful, but it'd make double dipping worthwhile. Then, when you get to the 24 episode seasons, just split them into half season releases.

I'm sure Shout Factory wants to make some money off the already released episodes that currently have viable licensing deals. Easy money for them. Or do those rights expire if Rhino stops distributing?
I just want them to go about it in a way that won't stifle the release of new episodes. I wouldn't mind a scheme of a simultaneous release of a volume of new eps and a volume of old eps, but no mixing new and old.

I still "Really hope" it though.

I am wondering if Shout has the same resources as Rhino does/did. What makes them more confident that can release more episodes than Rhino could. I know it seems like Rhino never put a lot of effort into the DVD releases but at least you knew that has the resources (being a Warner label and all).

I, too am worried about double-dipping of already released episodes. I wonder why the guys at MST3K info haven't picked up on this?

Shout did SCTV which also had a lot of rights issues. For the most part they released SCTVs nearly fully intact with the original material as it aired. I'm hopeful on that end...

Okay, seriously, check your houses for hidden cameras. We may all be gettin' Punk'd here.
But on the other hand, if this is true. WHOO-HOO!!!!!!!!
Maybe those lost KTMA episodes will finally surface.... for download anyway.

Maybe the Godzilla screw-up is part of the reason.

From MST3K info:
"Our source at Shout Factory says they are looking at the first release around mid-year and they have not made any decisions about what whether they will be single releases or sets.
Volume 10.2 will be the final Rhino release."

WHAT THE?!?!
Interesting. I STILL haven't heard anything concrete about the Gila Monster single disc and this news makes me a little worried that Rhino might renege. Thoughts....?

I know that the first thing I did when I read this news was order Volume 12, which I hadn't gotten around to picking up yet, and preordering 10.2 on the theory that this might affect the single-disk "Gila" release. That might have been jumping the gun, but I don't see how this news can *decrease* the chance of one of those sets getting hard to find, so I'm playing it safe. Worse comes to worse I can always Ebay something.
I'm assuming the "we'll have every episode" thing is press release hype. Some of the rights holders won't be any more inclined to play ball than they were before, and I assume BBI isn't any more interested in putting out the KTMAs than they were before (still, can you imagine a more effective way to prove themselves to the fans than by immediately putting out a set of the first three KTMAs?). Shout does seem to have a history of being aware of and playing to fans, so I'm hoping we can avoid double-dipping, at least for a while. Eventually, of course, it might make sense to go back to the Rhino episodes for the benefit of newer fans.
Does this make more Film Crew releases more likely, or less? I know they were pretty unlikely to be doing more of those anyway.

Yeah, not to mention all the great music that was used in Freaks and Geeks. If ShoutFactory gives MST3k the treatment they've given some of the other shows they've released, we might be in for MSTie heaven!

As a Sonic SatAM fan, I have faith in Shout!Factory. They not only gave the neglected show a release, but a proper one, with animated menus, brand new box-art by Ken Penders, and a ton of cool extras. Shout is the perfect place for cult shows.
