Hi, al27 here bringing you another installment of his patented game. I've changed the rating scale slightly, mostly because it limited what a 10 could be. By my rating scale, not enough episodes could qualify for a 10 because they're not newb friendly. I figure fans might think an episode to be totally awesome and deserving of a 10, but the reason they didn't give it a 10 is because they enjoy it for all the nuances and references to past episodes it may contain. So screw the newbs and long live the fans, because the new rating system is here to stay!!!
Anyway, here are the NEW rules:
You watch MITCHELL or you remember it from last time, whatever.
You rate said episode using a 1 to 10 rating. 1 being, "This episode totally sucks! It is so bad it physically hurt me!" and 10 being "One of the best episodes I’ve EVER seen in my life!”
Then you tell me and everyone reading this post why that episode deserves that rating, whether it be good or bad.
I'll go first:
I just watched MITCHELL for the first time last Friday, so I haven’t really decided about this episode yet. The first time I watch any MST episode, I’m more concerned with figuring the movie out and the riffs come in second, so I’ll have to watch it a couple more times to really see whether I love it or hate it, but from what I saw its good, good host segments (Mike tricking Frank with his keys was fantastic), a tolerable but bad enough to be funny movie, and the riffs I do remember were quite good (“Baby oil! AAAUGGHH!”). Like I said, it’ll take a couple of viewings to really enjoy/not enjoy it, but I think I’ll like it. First time: a 7 out of 10.
See? Easy!
Have fun, also, since there is no set schedule for MST anymore (its so sad), I'll be announcing next week's game's episode in the previous game post. I pick RED ZONE CUBA, because I loves it! See you there!

As many of you guys know, I think Michell is one of my least favorite episodes. I give it 2 out of 10 just for the host segments.

I love it,10.I'm watching it right now! Mitchell is hilarious, poor Joe Don Baker has such stupid main roles. The riffing is great, and I like the JDB riffs. The host segments are good, but Gypsy gets a little tiresome eventually. I love Mike's line at the beginning: "You guys watch Joe Don Baker movies?"I didn't think it was that great on my first viewing, but everyone since then has been hilarious.
Wakachika,Wakachika,Wakachika!

I love the Mitchell episode dearly. Mainly because it's the "big change-over". So it gets a 10. But, I like Final Justice better as a movie. It's just awful! "You think you can take me? You just go ahead on. It's your move." I go out of my way to find reasons to use this line in public. Whether it's while standing in line at the supermarket or standing next to a 87 year old woman at the liquor store.#nosmileys

I limit myself to 10 four-star ratings. That means I always have an absolute "Top 10" list. Occasionally, an episode will slip from the list and be replaced by a different ep based on how I feel upon re-watching. Mitchell has never slipped out.
Overall: I remember where I was when it first aired. It was the second episode I bought (after Pod People). It's a pivotal episode in the life of the series and funny to boot.
Host Segments: I have always liked Gypsy, so the host segments are fine with me. The sequence where Mike tricks Frank is right out of the Marx brothers routines. Gypsy's lip reading a-la Hal from 2001 is genius.
Movie Segments: So many classic moments. Mitchell the ladies man. Baby oil. Merlin Olsen. The songs. The Key Largo rip-off.
Favorite Riff: Mitchell- even his name says, "Is That A Beer"?
Overall- 9 out of 10.

One of my favorates. Although I do find Gypsy a bit annoying in the host segments, the theater parts make up for it. It's a solid 7 IMO.

From my review thread in Rowsdower's Reviews:
512-Mitchell
Premise: He's Mitchell! The beer drinkin', prostitute lovin', clumsy detective played to perfection by Joe Don Baker! When trespassers are shot he is on the case! Why did the owner of the house shoot this trespasser? Did it have anything to do with the fact that it looked like he was robbing the house? Mitchell is the only one bold enough to ask these questions! And damnit, he wants answers! But alas, nobody else cares, so this plot is dumped quickly, even though they attempt to bring it back up several times with it just fading away soon after. Mitchell is soon reasigned to watch over an old guy named Mr. Cumming (no not Alan Cumming, Mitchell's not that lucky), who supposedly has something to do with stolen heroin. Cumming says he knows nothing about heroin, and of course Mitchell, being Mitchell, doesn't believe him. This leads to one dull situation after another and eventually to the most boring car chase in movie history (and yes, I'm including the mini-kart chase from Space Mutiny. At least that was unintentionally hillarious). We eventually come to a climax involving a boat, a helecopter, and Andy Kaufman. I don't know how we got there either, but appearantly the movie found a way.
What makes this movie bad?: Quick off the top of your head name three good Joe Don Baker movies.
Thought so. Even when it's a cameo it usually turns out to be crap (Congo anyone?). Well, maybe if you're a James Bond fan you may like some of the Bond flicks he was in. Too bad I'm not. You know the thing about Joe Don Baker is that he really can only play one roll. The beaten down, angry, unlikable character. Unfortunatly for the audience, he thinks he can play action hero too. Joe Don, take a look at yourself. You're no Arnold Schwarzenegger. Hell you're not even Jean-Claude Van Damme. Even Jackie Chan has gotten doughy over the years, and you're still miles below him. Hell, I aint the skinniest person alive and I think that even I could pull off action hero better than you. You best stick with rolls like the one you had in Joe Dirt. That was truely your best perfomance to date.
But Joe Don aside, this is one disgusting movie. I mean honestly did we have to have the Michell/Linda Evans hooker sex scene? Did we need the hooker at all? All she did was provide a few lame jokes toward the middle and the end. She didn't really have a purpose in the movie. And what a dumb hooker too. Bringing grass into a cops house not once but TWICE! Even after he busted her on it the first time! What the hell? Are you not right in the head? John Saxon's also in this movie (although some of his stuff is cut out, including a death scene). His performance is almost as wooden as the one he displayed in A Nightmare on Elm Street (even though he was still the second best perfomance in that movie, after Robert Englund). But then again what other movie would you see a burgler running away from the scene of a crime but stops and turns around when the owner of the house shouts out "HEY!" Classic stuff.
Before I go I'd like to ask one question, what the hell was Mitchell doing in the opening credit sequence? Was he throwing a rock? What an odd choice for an opener.
Episode Review: Sadly Joel's last episode, but one hell of a way to go out! I'm not just saying this, this is truly an excelent episode. I riot from start to finish.
The theater segments, one Joe Don blow after another, and most of them right on target. And the riffs don't stop there. The riffs during the car chase are excelent, and even during the moments the movie slows down to a bore, Joel and the bots are in top form throughout! There's a few great gags in theater segement two. One where Joel and the 'bots sing their own version of the Mitchell theme, and another in which Mitchell gun falls down his pant leg causing Joel and the 'bots to flinch (I love it when they do that).
The host segments are above par. I love that they focus on Gypsy for a change, although as Joel's last episode it probably should have featured him a little more. The opener is pretty funny, Joel spending all that time on something just so the bots can break it and then they refuse too because he took the fun out of it (even though they eventually do). There really isn't an invention exchange. The only invention present is the Daktari Stool (?). In it's place we are introduced to Mike who is working as a temp for the mads. The first segment is pretty silly but it gets a chuckle just watching Gypsy stare blankly at the screen, but it does generate the question on why the hell the Mads called the SOL. Maybe Frank accidentally hit the button, who knows? Host segment two is fun but not really funny. I love how Gypsy asks Tom and Crow if they could keep a secret and right away they say "Nope. Never could and never will." Segment 3 is hillarious. I love Mike's ruse on how he got the keys from Frank. And the final segment is Joel's big goodbye. It's fitting even though odd that Joel just talks like going back to Earth is nothing special (I liked the Diabolik going back to Earth segments better). The "static" was kinda pathetic. It was piling on the corners of the hexfield. Oh well, I guess it was the best they could do on their budget. After that is Mike's big hello as with Dr. F's humorous line "Say Mike, what size Jump suit do you wear?"
Overall a must see, not only because it's Joel's farewell, but a top notch episode.
**** out of ****
Best riff: "Mitchell. Even his name says 'Is that a beer?'" - Joel

I would originally give this around a 7 out of 10 but after seeing it again yesterday I'll push it up to an 8. I guess repeat viewings help a score more. Also it seems some people didn't really like Gypsy in that episode but I thought she was funny in it.

I give this one an 8. I didn't care for this one the first few times I saw it, but it's an episode that grows on you (the plot makes more sense by the third or fourth viewing).
The movie itself was standard action, not much to say there.
The riffing was fantastic. This is a time when you know that J&TB are feeling the exact pains that you are during the more, um, risque moments of the film.
The host segments were nice. Not the best material, but it was some good solid material. I think they overdid Gypsy saying "How?", but that's my only real complaint here.
So overall, 8 out of 10.

I like it very much!
I give this one a 9. The riffs are hilarious - "Mittens!", "Elvis - the dying years", "Would you like to buy a Yani tape?", it's got bad editing - like the boom shadow in the dinner scene. And the movie itself is funny to me - why do movie makers insist on using unattractive men as attractive men? Why, why why? It's not just Mitchell, it's those nasty ugly guys in the beginning too. The host segments are the weak piece IMO, althought I like Tom and Crow on the pogo sticks. The final goodbye to Joel is nice.
I've heard that Joe Don Baker complained that his movie was MST'd, but I say it's his own damn fault.

I've heard that Joe Don Baker complained that his movie was MST'd, but I say it's his own damn fault. Yes he did. He said if he met any of the Brains he'd "kick their asses." Ha. I'd like to see him catch them first. Mitchell was in the 70's, he's in way worse shape now.

At this point I don't think Joe Don has the energy to swallow a sunflower seed much less kick someone's ass.

Joe Don against Joel and the Bots - now that's a battle we need to see in Gypsy's Games!

Mitchel is one of the greatest ones I love it 10 10 10, don't try to follow the plot, I've been watching for years, and I'm just starting to grasp it. Ok so maybe I'm a bit slow...but anyways just enjoy the riffs for a sitting or two, then try the plot.... Basically Mitchel is a misunderstood cop, somehow the beginning murder is connected to some drug deal, or does that have any connection? well the drugs chalk, mitchell kills andy coff, and uh well the Hot Merging action is great!... and I love the walkachicka! I heard that once, on the radio, but I can't remember what the song was called, can someone help me out there? OH thank goodness they merged successfully, my heart was in my throat....
