Ala episode 902. I'll give a topic, and you have to give me two sentences or so on that topic as Rooney. After a week, I'll choose the winner. The winner suggests the next topic, and so on. Okay? Your topic this week is... Fast Food!

Fast food gives two implications, first that it's fast and second that it's food. I like food, and I like things fast, so you'd thing that fast food might be a good option for me. But since the drive through is always so busy it ceases to be fast, and the legitimacy of the content presented as actual food is up for some debate, unless you get one of their salads. But since the salads are not traditional fast food, it becomes more of a restaurant sit-in trip anyway.

Bump. Apparently, most people would rather play one of the 2 dozen word connection games than something MST-related that requires some thinking.

Fast Food. I enjoy an occasional McDonalds double cheeseburger. The double cheeseburger is part of their new "dollar menu." Over the years, I think that all this fast food has made me fat and diabetic. Just the other day at Burger King, I got confused for Orsen Welles. Apparently, fast food had the same adverse effect on that fellow's brain as it has had on my body.

Fast food has been entrenched in American culture since the '50's. In recent books and documentaries, it has been blamed not just for increasing the average body weight of the American citizen, but also for most of the ills of society, such as littering the landscape with Day-Glo yellow, red, orange and brown plastic. Now call me crazy, (plenty have), but the last time I checked you didn't have to eat fast food if you didn't want to. I'll take my red, yellow, orange and brown burger over a Chipotle' grill sandwich any day. OK, that was pointless and stupid. Hey, at least I tried!

Well if no one else will start a topic i will. The topic is...
Japanese Animation
Japanese animation is very interesting to me. It's like they took two things i like, Japan, and animation, and mixed them together. I really like Japan. The men are friendly, the women are quite attracitve, and i allways enjoy a large plater of raw fish. And i also enjoy animation. I'm a sucker for a classic Disney film. So i figured i would enjoy Japanese Animation. However i was sadly mistaken. Most of these shows are not something i would ever thing to watch. There's lots of giant robots blowing things up. The women certainly don't look Japanese, as thier assets are much larger than the women i meet had. Perhaps they're from a different part of Japan. And frankly the plots of some of these shows leave something to be desired. take that Neon Genesis Evangelion show for example. I've seen that things something like five times now and i'm not anywhere closer to making sense of it than i was the first time. I'm sure this genre has it's fans, and they can keep it. For me i'll keep my memories of my trip to Japan fresh with a nice bowl of miso soup and a tape of that fabulous Kabuki play i saw. Now that's good entertainment.

I'll return when I can think of something to say about Japanese Animation....

When I think of Japanese Animation, I think of collecting things, and I think of robots. There's a lot to offer in Japanese Animation, but those seem to be the biggest draws. People can collect cards, monsters, treasures, missing pieces of armor, or crystals, just to name a few. And robots come, usually in sizes taller than buildings, and almost essentially with more weapons than there are things to collect.
Sometimes people even collect robots, or parts to robots. Other times, robots are doing the collecting. I don't think I've ever seen an instance of robots collecting robots, but it wouldn't surprise me if some collection of japanese animation had that theme in it. There aren't times when collection robots collect collection robots, because that would just be silly, and japanese animation tries not to be silly, unless the thing being collected in question happens to be monsters.

Nah, it's okay. I was gone for three days, you waited long enough.
Let's wait another day or two to see if someone else chimes in...

Well, I'll chime in.
You know, one thing I never could understand was why people dis Japanese animation without actually looking at it. Sure, the characters have weird eyes, but let's examine the other points of it. Japanese animation has a very wide variety of story genres to choose from. It's not just Big-eyed, poofy haired guys beating each other up or porn. There's romance, sci-fi, comedy, drama, ad infinitum. Much of what people don't like about Japanese anime comes from the lack of knowledge of the Japanese culture. Like it or not, manga is the fastest growing print media market, and anime is the fastest growing DVD market in America right now. Japanese animation is here to stay.
