Well, as I've finally gotten into the show, I figure why not review the episodes I watch? I bought the full Season 3(except Rhino releases, of course) off of eBay, and my copy of Season Four should arrive soon, so I'll have plenty of material.
Now, I probably should start from the beginning of the season, but rather than do that I'm gonna review the episode I just finished watching, 314: Mighty Jack. And Torgo, I hope you don't mind, but I'm borrowing your format for the reviews.
Episode 0314: Mighty Jack.
Premise: An evil terrorist organization known as "Q" has been ravaging the world in war...or so it claimed at the beginning of the film. Therefore, a special team called Mighty Jack(for God knows why) was created. The entire movie basically has Mighty Jack combating against Q. Do they succeed in defeating this evil organization? I know I don't care. Do you?
What makes this movie bad?:Well, it's a Sandy Franks dub, so that's one huge mark against right there. But frankly, I thought for the most part the movie was enjoyable, sorta. I wouldn't watch it without Joel, Tom, and Crow of course, but that's not the point. I've always been of the opinion that the MiSTing makes the movie more enjoyable to watch. And for the most part, that's been true. The dubbing here was better than in most other Sandy Franks movies, but even still the movie in general wasn't that great. If it had a real plot, it probably would have been decent. But otherwise...
Episode Review: Well, thus far I've watched half of Season 3, from the so-so Gamera episode to the horrible, horrible Gamera vs. Guiron, and I dare say this is the best thus far.
The riffing is excellent throughout the entire film. In many of the episodes I've watched I find myself not laughing at many of the riffs, but in this one I just couldn't stop laughing. I especially loved how the Sandy Franks song came back up randomly, as well as the constant, season running gags about "I'm made of liquid metal."
The host segments were pretty good. I've never been a fan of them all that much, seeing as how for me they tend to fall flat more often than not. But this time even they were pretty funny. Especially the prologue segment, where it's like the ship is under attack and stuff. (They're being bombarded by silly string.) I loved the invention exchange this time too, which is a rarity for me, as invention exchanges almost always fall flat in my eyes.
Overall, I dare say this is on the top three for Season 3.
